'Text Driver' jailed for 4 years for killing cyclist
BBC NEWS | England | Hampshire | Text driver jailed for bike death
Good to see her locked up but saddening to see that the cyclist wasn't wearing a helmet and totally annoying that he went through a red-light

That's pretty much what I thought. He would have been just as dead if he'd been hit by any other vehicle that couldn't stop in time, but the driver in those cases probably wouldn't have been looking at a prison sentence given the red light situation. If it was the texting that was the main contributor to the death then putting her away is still the right thing.

sad news indeed but
it should have read. 'hopefully it will help deter drivers and cyclists from continuining to flout the law '
'and the answer is simple, dont use your mobile and dont jump red lights, be you a cyclist or motorist '
"Today's sentence will not bring back Jordan Wickington. However, it will hopefully help to deter drivers who continue to flout the law by using their mobile phones while driving.
"The answer is quite simple - don't use your mobile phone and drive.

Had the cyclist ignored a rail crossing warning, and pedalled merrily across the railway, to be hit by the on-coming train, who would have been blamed?
Not quite as cut and dry as it seems. AE mag had a piece on this incident recently, and ultimately, the cyclist should have stopped at the red light.
Not that I'm saying texting whilst driving is safe, mind...
