need some advise...

i bought a Superwarm 4 greenhouse heater and searched high and low but could not find any 'Parosene' to put in it, thats what it takes

i have not been able to find any Parosene stockists.
anyway i got some Paraffin/kerosene from Notcutts garden center and used this, it said it was for greenhouse heaters and lamps. this morning i got up and found i now own a black greenhouse that was full of smoke and soot. i chucked the watering can over the heater. the chimney on the heater is caked in soot, almost blocked up.

i soaked the wick for an hour and had the wicks poking out about quarter inch. the flame burns yellow which i know is wrong

what have i done wrong?

well i have taken some advise and kept the wick just poking up. apparently the flame is supposed to be yellow. i have re lit it but the flame is still hooge and very smokey

i am going to take the blackened smoke damaged heater back to Argos

Sara you muppet!!! It runs on parrafin, and those turny things on the side, raise and lower the wick.

More wick = more flame, and they are very sooty to run, its a downside of burning parrafin.

Sara, constructively, can you get electricity to your greenhouse? My dad uses long electric tube heaters. (True they ain't cheap to run I suppose...)

you can prolly clean it up with a bit of soap an water and then start again if youve got an wickky left

i must have a duff one then. i have trimmed the wicks down till i can hardly see them but it is still smoky as hell.
i bought another one that uses gas cannisters but i couldn't find anywhere to get the gas and i thought it was a bit dangerous being in the MY garden so i opted for the smoky thing.

i havnt got power to the G/H just solar lights and vents. have cleaned the whole thing out now, it was so greasy. i have a small electric radiator that i could use on an extension lead

Just a minuet Sara , im not sure what you mean by 'soaking' tho wick for an hour - the whole idea is it 'wicks' the parafin up from the tank very slowly and turned 'up' just enough so its visible - usuallly

Sara you don't need to trim the wicks. Just turn the ***** until its the right height. Ie light them then turn untill the flame looks about right (probably about 1 inch high).

as for soot, thats what you get for burning paraffin.
