Default wanting a led torch

has anyone got a led torch?

basically i was playing around with my w960i and realised how bright the 2 leds are (much better than my maglite) so i'm looking one thats bright, compact to fit in my pocket, and preferably strong enough for self defence (just in case)

I use LED lamps on my bike and by God they are bright!

I've cycled down totally unlit cycle paths in the dead of night (we're talking American Werewolf in London dark here) and the light has fully illuminated the path in front of me.

You can't look at the light when it is on - and I've completely dazzled people when I've 'accidentally' shone it in their eyes, so as far as saftey is concerned...

::: www.ledshoppe.com :::

Bought two led torches from here before christmas plus a sim card reader and rs232 convertor for less than £8.00 delivered - torches are 3 led and give off an incredible light.

This is the one's I bought - £1.50 each...

Yeah I bought one of these recently. I went to buy a new bulb for my 2xAA Maglite and saw these modules next to the bulbs. Basically it replaces the bulb/reflector module with another module which has 3 white LEDS.

It's pretty bright, much brighter than the Maglite was before, but the downside is you can't focus the beam. It's no big deal for me though, the spread beam is fine for doing stuff around the house/car etc. The batteries last much longer now too, and the whole thing was shedloads cheaper than a Surefire.

Lightweight torches and very overpriced, ebay is your best bet check out this 3xcree led torch.

Seoul led's are also very good.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/550-Lumens-CREE-LED-X3-Flashlight-Torch-w-Charger-Kits_W0QQitemZ180210704762QQihZ008QQcategoryZ11711 0QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My halogen lumicycle mtb light kicks out around 720lumens for an overvolted 20v bulb, fantastic light but im waiting for led tech to get better before i plan to replace.

What good MTB lights are there? I live in the boonies & it would be really nice to see the potholes before I hit them

Depends, give me a price range and i'll find a good system, the more expensive the better naturally.

The best being the lupine edison but that's 2000lumers and is plain rediculous bright.

Oh meant to add this site for torches as well.

Yup, don't drop it afterwards though, droppped mine and the LED stopped working...thus the LED-Lenser which is far superior.

I've two Surefire torches and swear by them professionally.

They arn't cheap, in fact, your probably better off ordering one from the states - but they'll do EXACTLY what you want. Only bad thing is that they absolutely eat lithium batteries... but thats what 7dayshop.co.uk is for

Have to admit that my other torches are a Surefire 6P and a Surefire 6P clone using 3 cells.

The 6P was a rifle light, now is a spotting light, the clone is now mounted to the rifle.

If I had the cash, I'd buy Surefire everytime.

I never realised there would be so much interest in torches

Still, I have a cheap Mellert. Its LED based, in a plastic housing. Takes 2xAA batteries and was less than £10. Had it for 2 years and used it for hours. Still not changed the batteries.

I'd like to see one of these Surefire torches in the flesh to know if it was worth paying the premium. Mind seems fine so far...

EDIT: scratch that, just looked on the web and found that my torch is now £25
Mellert - Master LED torch - Mellert Torches from The Torch Shop (its the 5 LED one)

DOUBLE EDIT: it takes 3 batteries. Maybe I should just leave this thread
