Just watched his latest film on DVD ... The wife purchased it today.
I just dont get it ???
Dont get me wrong they are very well made, I just dont get the whole Harry Potter thing ......

Never read it, have no interest and switched whichever film off that was shown last xmas.

The **** that plays Harry is enough to make me never be interested. Plus, I'm a geezer.

Stories about kids and fantasy isn't good IMO.

 

Typical of Britain today that a single parent mother has made a billion from writing crap in a Scottish cafe.

 

Be careful I got banned for suggesting it was less than good, might have had something to do with the fact the people who own this website were reading this children's book at the time

Harry Potter is soo unrealistic - I mean, a ginger kid with two friends ? C'mon !

 

The whole Harry Potter thing has completely passed me by, I guess not having kids means I'm far less likely to be exposed to such evils as books and films for children

 

When the first two films came out my misses was well into them.. so I watched them.. have since been to watch all but the latest but current misses wants to se eit an all.. I protest but in all honesty i don't mind watching. Entertaining enough, and a change from the petrol head gun totting flicks i usually watch

Course If I never saw any of them again I wouldn't be bothered either!

 

I tried reading the first book and found it a too dull to finish. The films weren't helped by the wooden acting.

 

My sister's an English teacher and she really loves them. I think it's all total tripe. We've had "discussions" about the whole Harry Potter thing. I too don't get it.
But then again, I didn't like Lord of the Rings either (much preferred the book) - plus I haven't got 12 or so hours in my life to sit down and watch em all!

 

I've read two of the books and seen two of the films on TV.

I have to say that I don't like the style of writing, the stories are OK, but full of pap fillers which play no REAL part in the story, and the films are a bit the same.

I WAS quite tickled to go to a wedding in London recently and find that the reception was in Hogwarts Hall, (Middle Temple Hall).

My other half dragged me to the cinema to see the latest film. It was that boring that i fell asleep during it. Not my thing at all.

 

Very over hyped in my opinion, if you're 10 they're probably great, but any adult who loves them has some serious issues. (IMO)

I USED to know someone who thought that the stupid quiditch? game that they play on the film, (the one on the broom sticks) would actually become a proper sport and would take over from football. He actually argued the point.
I don't get it either, i have tried to watch it but just dont like it.
The same as lord of the rings, couldn't stand it but everyone went mad over it, i just hated everything about the film.

I never said why I think that or how I come to that opnion. I mean it could be that I bought them all and read them dressed in a wizards outfit - Or it could be that I read them to my youngest and enjoyed the story.

Just out of interest, would you think anyone over 12 enjoying Stephen King has "serious issues" If not, why not?

Also, have you read the books, I mean like all 7, are you speaking from a position of knowledge?

 

Did he not sort of give up when it was pointed out that broomsticks don't actuallly exist?

It bugs me that people compare Lord of the rings with Harry Potter!

One is a children's book about a boy wizard, the other is an epic 1000 plus page fantasy novel, that is just the tip of the iceberg of Tolkien's imagination.

Sums up today's dumbed down society, that people compare the two, pretty much just because the films were out at the same time.

Fair enough, if you don't like Fantasy type films, then you won't like either, but don't make out that they are in any way similar.

 

That's just snobbery. And I used to think the exact same.

I started reading them to read to my youngest. The first two books just served to confirm my opnion that they weren;t very good and not fit to grace the same bookshelf as LotR.

But by book 4 you are hooked in as the story arc really starts to heat up. As with LotR the films miss out huge chunks for the story. And as the series takes a much darker tone with book 5,6 & 7 they really do get very good.

Don't get me wrong, it's not Tolstoy, what it is is an entertaining read.

The are both fantasy fiction, they both deal with some complex issues on a multitude of levels.

If you have young kids and have watched the series progress from the 1st film through to this latest release then you would get what harry potter was all about.

No point watching the 4th film in and thinking WTF. You need to watch it from the beginning.

1st film was good, so was the 2nd in fact. Good in the sense that they were magical for children. The following films were a lot darker and lost the childrens appeal IMO.

Still JK Rowling has done very very well for herself. Harry and the cast aren't short of a few bob or two

Good children fantasy films IMO, kids love the 1st 2.

 

Does that mean you can read the whole of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in under 12 hours?

 

if its kids programming you want to see, i can highly recommend lazy town on bbc

 

Must admit I have never heard anyone out side of Scoobynet say "I've haven't..." before! But then nothing suprises me about the varying degree of new English I learn from this site.
