Excellent, I haven't heard of this before and I loved The Long Way Round. I hope they manage to capture the same 'closeness' that you felt with the lads on the original series. It almost felt like you were there with them, and you felt happy for them at the end once they had completed it all.

When is it on? Alas I don't get BBC2, so might have to get the inevitable torrent of it on Monday (along with TG) and the buy the DVD when it's out

Wasted by Obi wan Mcgregor letting his missus yank his chain and spoil the 'boys own adventure' feel of the first trip. And yes I've read both books.

I'll still watch it though

The series is out on torrents. Finished watching it a few weeks ago. It is good, but I cannot compare it to the Long Way Round as I have not watched that yet.

Cool

Should be good - directly after Top Gear.

Two hours of back to back quality TV.

McGregor wife Eve is also expected to join the riders in some parts of the trip at the end of this month.
Which she did. I still say, but why? After reading the book I'm still no wiser.

I just loved Long Way Round, and like what I see so far, but its all very organised (too organised?) what with the back up people and vehicles.

Any one read Ted Simons book, Jupiters Travels? Or his Dreaming of Jupiter ?
It was Jupiters travels that got Charlie and Ewan to do the first trip. Teds journey, on his own, little or no back up and he really did go round the world. If you havent seen it its a damn good read.

Watched this last night, now whenever the subject of Ewans missus coming along for the ride (or for parts of it) Charley threw all his toys out of the pram.

Its like he was physically jelous of Ewans missus coming and that would somehow ruin their experience.

I can see how he would be a little bit miffed but even so, what was Charley expecting? To spend every night hugging Ewan and telling each other how great they are?

Watched the first episode last night and to be honest, wasnt that impressed by it. Ewan was ok, but every time I saw Charley he was having a hissyfit about something.

My thoughts exactly......

Also thought that McGregor came over really well in teh Long Way Round but thought he was a bit of a pain in the **** in last night's programme.....

Check out advrider.com if you're interested in adventure riding.

This is one trip taken by board members, allow yourself 20 mins to read it!

I don't blame him. It's fair enough doing family stuff sometimes (well - most of the time really), but this was their trip, to do the lads adventuring thing. It's like when you plan a night out with the lads and someone brings the missus along, so you have to spend the whole time talking politely, rather than arguing about sports, supercars, ale, birds ***** etc.

And you wouldn't be pissed off? If my wife tried to pull a stunt like that I'd tell her where to get off big time. This sort of trip is one for the memory banks, a boy's own adventure and his missus gets all jealous and wants to join in - I think she's the one with issues although Ewan McGregor was fairly pathetic telling everyone how 'excited' he was to be riding along with his wife. Yeah right. ***** whipped, me thinks.

Agreed.
Not only does his wife look like a manky old french violin teacher, she is also queen winge.
Charley's wife had a collapsed lung yet didn't seem to need to come along.

It would pi55 me off if a partner gatecrashed a lad's mission.
Does seem a bit OTT on the organisation side compared to the Long Way Round. The event must have cost a fortune.

I enjoyed it, but I must agree that Ewan's wife was really starting to wind me up too. The fact that she can't even ride just makes it even worse! Both Charley and Ewan are very experienced riders now and I must admit I did understand where Charley was coming from!

Had the wife been remotely nice looking then Ewan could have been forgiven for bowing to the pressure I reckon she must have put on him.....

But

What a minger

She only did a week and pot hole tarmac was about as extreme as she got other than the odd bit of sand.

After reading the book I dont think it changed the dynamics of the trip too much.

Cheers
Lee
