Little remains from my original 1970s four lane set, but I still have a 1980s stock car set (with added banger Minis too).

 

I have a Scalextric 'World Rally' bought my my daughter a couple of years ago. I think she was about 6 months old at the time

I've still got the XR2i set ,with loads of extra track ,in the box up in the loft.Have to dig it out some time ,although the wife will go off her head for making a mess .

 

I introduced my 4 year old to Scalextric a few weeks back for his birthday. We have a couple of races before he goes to bed each night, great fun....

 

I've got the Scalextric Subaru Challenge and Bob has a huge box full of bits of Cossies, track, spectators, trees and other stuff so the plan is one day to build a huge track up in the loft

 

Le Mans 24 hr and Xr3i rallycross sets, bopth circa 1990 both complete in their boxes

 

Bought a box of bits off fleabay a few months back, about 80 lengths of track in all. Sitting in the loft wiating for the day when I have time to do something with it!

 

I also have an early nineties Le Mans set, with a Sauber and a Porsche 962, along with boxes and boxes of track.....

 

I had the drag racer that could spin 360 and keep going... also the cross roads.. many and electric shock as I used my knife to see sparks LOL

I bought a small one off ebay for £30 a while back but it wasn't the same.. up in the loft with you.. used to have a train set nailed to a board... never did much about it.. want one now : )

I have the Mighty Metro set and the Isle Of Man set.

 

My old TR7 set has gone to the great scalextric set in the sky, with the track and cars falling apart. So I decided to get myself the cheapo rally set from Toys R Us a few years ago with the Subaru and Toyota rally cars. Plus I have a Forumla One set with Williams and Mclaren (red and white) from Ebay plus many other bits of track again from ebay.

I had lots of spectators and grandstands which my dad painted...no idea where they have gone now and the sound system. I still buy cars now and again if I like them more as a model really. Have a nice Bentley Le Man winner and a few other GT style cars.

 

LOL, I did have a rather long break from it. Work and other commitments stopped play for 18 months.

I've cleaned it all up and the rails are now masked ready to paint the track. Hoping to get the bulk of the scenery complete by christmas. I'll always continue to add bits a tweak the track here and there.

 

I was never allowed one as a kid, so MrsD bought me and the ginja stepson a Subaru Challenge each for christmas a few years ago

She's had plenty of opportunity to regret that impulse though, we now have in the region of 300 pieces of track (including a banked curve, a goodwood chicane and a Le Mans start), mainly ebay bargains, and a dozen or so cars.
When it's all set up together the track is big enough to loop through every downstairs room in the house

 

Ginger stepson? He must have a hard life, the poor lad.....

Mine's too long and it wont work properly without cables (used to jump power to distant parts of the track). You dont seem to be able to buy them any longer, although they used to come with larger sets in the 1970s. They use the same connector as the original controllers (which dont fit onto newer track either).

Ive still got my original Figure 8 F1 set from the 70's.

I also have loads of extra stuff bought in the years following:

It includes Two Mk1 Escorts, one with Lights and one I resprayed yellow like my own car when I was 19 (Bit stupid really).

I also have two TypeR's I got when my oldest was born.

I have the usual collection of CSL BM's and 911's in various states of distress and a 6R4 and an M1, if I remember right.

One of the best cars is a 4wd SCX Audi Quatro, that IS actually 4wd.

 

Was that the one with the rubber band linking the front and back axels? I had that if so

I remember buying the ones with magnets on the back.. they flew!

 

He has a couple of excellent tracks.

The Spanish are particularly good at rally tracks

Fly Cars Are very nicely detailed but can take a bit of tweaking to run properly.

I tend to take out the magnets and put weights on the chassis. Gives more feel and encourages a bit of drift.

 

I dont have any of my original set left from when I was a kid but over the last few years I have built myself quite an extensive collection again comprising of 40+ cars including cars from Scalextrics, Fly, Carrera, AutoArt and SCX (I really like the SCX cars) among other manufacturers, I also have a couple of bikes and of course, many many meters of track. I find my Fly cars to be extremely noisy compared to my other cars, do you find the same?

I have not long bought a digital set with some extra lane change track sections to convert my current sport track to run digital. Have also got myself some microchips to convert some of my older cars to digital also, these look quite fiddley to install.

All my stuff is in boxes at the mo as I moved house a year ago and have not had the time to start construction in the loft on my new layout.

It's wierd Edd cause its like you looked inside my head and built what I was thinking , even your loft looks like mine LOL Great track though mate, get some more up to date pics up for us to see and for me to pinch ideas from

 

Mmm - I'm liking this routing idea, £3.99 for a roll of tape, bargain!

 

Fly cars are noisy buggers. You can glue the motor in place and glue the axle bushings in place that should make them quieter. Truing the tyres stops bounce and vibration which will make for a faster and hopefully quieter car.

As for loft builds I've found two issues - one is to do your floor properly. I haven't really done mine right but its not about to collapse just yet. And two, if you put the track against a wall make sure you can reach an off'd car. The far corner at the end of my incline I can only just reach.

Finally if you go permanent try out as many layouts as possible. I just went for as much track as I could fit on the table together with scenery and its not the most complicated of circuits.

Slotforum cars section should help you out with chipping older cars. I'm not going digital because you can only really fit two people in my loft.

Tricky routed track

Although I haven't routed mine, I'm considering covering the rails with copper tape anyway. Stops tarnish worries (or buy Ninco track which AFAIK is stainless)

Me too, I didn't realise you could do that! They all seem to be one lane though

After living with the Mrs for the past two years, my parents finally cleared out their loft and brought all my Scalextric stuff over. Only two of the more recent cars worked properly but we had a right laugh over Christmas playing with it, it went all around the house. Considering getting it back down in a few weeks again.

There are a good few others that are multi track, some guy has even done a lane switching / overtaking attempt!

 

Yup, got a set here...although if a certain mod in here got his way, my car would be written off!!!!!!!!!!!!
I begged my parents to let me have a set when younger....they eventually remembered and bought me one when I was 30!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Ive got miles of track and a few F1 cars from 80s and 90s.

My dad did buy me a set when I was about 8 and made all the barriers out of cardboard painted white. I had a set of trucks, minis, 911s, Rover police car and Rover touring car amongst others.

Many days of oiling the track to get broadies were had by me and my mates!!
