Default can't tape cable

i've just bought a Philips dvd/ video (all in 1) to replace 2 seperates.

I've connected the scarts, etc as per instructions and when on the video channel (on tv) i can view cable so the signal is comming from digital box, through video onto tv - but i can't tape the cable channel?

On the old video i had to select AV which taped the cable but on the new dvd/ video it doesn't have an AV button

Help..............................

I think if you press the channel + or - button you will come to two channels called A1 and A2 (or something similar) and you have to use one of those to record from cable.

You have the second scart output of the cable box going to the DVD/VID? If so, as said above, switch to correct AV input. D

On mine its below channel one, a1, a2, a3 etc. To check that this works, I first switched on my SkyBox and flicked down the channels.
I`m not very good with new fangled gadgets either

nope, the video doesn't have any AV, A1,A2 etc buttons which is the confusing thing - if i try to tape the cable when it's on this channel (watched through video) then it just tapes a terestrial channel
