Default Going To Majorca....?

Just back from Majorca. We found a place on the owners direct web site (following a recommendation of the site from someone on here). Used holiday rentals before, so the principle was nothing new, but still a good find.

We flew with Air Berlin. They were the cheapest and I have to say probably one of the best airlines I have flown with. They were friendly and efficient from start to finish (plus free soft drinks and sandwich [choice of two!!]) during the flight which is virtually unheard of on a european "budget" flight these days!

We hired a car from Hiper Car Rental. I would not use them again. Nothing wrong with the car at all (thought we'd hire a Punto and they gave us a Honda Jizz), but their "courtesy bus to and from the airport every 5-10 mins" claim is a total lie in my experience. To cut a long story short, we waited an hour for a bus and arrived at the check in desk on the way home 10mins after it's closure time (according to tickets).

Luckily Air Berlin were friendly and helpful. We arrived at the airport at 2.05pm for a 2:45pm flight. We were on the plane by 2:30pm - after a bit of a panic at passport control!

In summary, if you're going to Majorca I can highly recommend Air Berlin. I would go as far out of my way as possible to avoid using Hiper car rental ever again.

HTH

I have been to Mallorca a lot and use Hiper regularly. When I use them they come to the airport in person to meet us and hand over the car in person. I guess it must be depends who you book them through.

Yep... AB (and Mallorca) are indeed highly recommended. Just stay away from the usual Chav places (Magaluf, Palma Nova etc) and all is very good!

we booked via the internet direct with hiper. they did meet us at the airport (we waited for about 30mins with other people for the bus to the hire depot) as we had apparently just missed one, which does sound feasible [but again blows the 5-10 min claim out of the water].

maybe that's the difference as you (rannoch) picked the car up from the airport...?

i would have thought a mass change-over day like a saturday would have been busy, but a monday???

I normally use the "holiday autos" website and get the car from the airport so no hanging about. Puerto Pollensa is my favourite spot.

Off to Majorca for 2 weeks in the morning. Can't wait.

Flew Air Berlin a couple of years back, impressed. Typically German, slick and efficient.

We use Avance car rentals, in Portals. Usually dirt cheap, all new motors (usually have a Panda, loads of fun), and run by a British guy.

I love the island, you can do Chav, Class and Culture, whatever takes your fancy. Don't mind a bit of each, so we fit right in

Nicely into the 30's yesterday apparently....
