Question How do i go about.....

....claiming a seemingly abandoned car?

In our underground garage there sits a very, very sorry looking TVR vixen, it hasnt moved for at least a year the drivers window is down, completly unlocked and full of rubbish.

It has the potential to be a very nice car.

I have left notices on all of the residents noticeboards asking if anyone is the owner and would it be up for sale, but no reply.

Is there a way through the Dvla to contact the registered owner or are keepers details privy to plod etc?

i read somewhere that after a certain time you are ale to claim an abandoned vehicle just not sure on the technicalitys?

any information would be appreciated ive searched on google, but i just seem to get lots of conflicting information.

You could apply directly to the DVLA for a new V5 document, as you "bought" the car recently for £50 cash from a guy in the car park who "said" he was the owner but didn't have the V5. DVLA will write to the previous owner to see if they object, and if they don't you get a V5 in your name.

It doesn't 100% make it yours in law though, just registered to you.

I would say not too much if you follow the advice already given. You can claim that you paid someone for it. It would be the owners word against yours.

The only real issue I can see is that if you do go ahead with it and then spend a lot of money doing it up and getting it running, then the owner comes and claims it!

contacting the dvla is the best option, because they will contact the owner and tell them that someone is applying for the log book, i had this happen to me a year ago with my golf gti, even though it was still parked on my drive,

Yes you can, if its abandoned and no one clains it its yours legally if you follow the correct procedure. Contact the DVLA.
I heard a guy on the RS forums got a RS Cosworth for nothing that had been left sitting in a back street for a number of years.

if it is unlocked have you looked in the glovebox, etc to see if there's anything with a name/ address on it?

how about a TVR owners club - they might know the owner?

The tvr oc site is about the same age as the car but i guess its worth a go.

Dvla online check came back with nothing i might ring them and see what the story is.

Although a nice dream its been abandoned for a good reason, i.e blow engine, box, both or worse. You do realise how much it would cost to restore one of those properly right?

Thumbs up

yea that was my thought but then i keep looking at the last picture and its just so right.

I`m sure with a little work a pinto /zetec or similar would go in.

just had a look at TVR Vixen Parts List: Main Index

It appears crossflow mounts are used just so happens ive got a mk2 escy sat in the garage awaiting a pinto, 1.3 x-flo if needs must , most ford bits should go in without too much trouble.

Looks like tvr have always raided the ford parts bin, most on that site is all ford stuff.
