Default Anyone live near/use the Dartford crossing?

My youngest has gone off on holiday to France today with two mates, driving from Scunny to Dover.

He was booked on the 12.15 out of Dover, and has just rung me to say they have JUST arrived at Dover! They left here at 0630 this morning.

So........nearly five and three quarter hours to do 245 miles An average speed of only 42 mph, and all but the first 38 miles is on motorway or dual carriageway

He says there was an accident on the M25. Anyone know?

Looking at the RAC traffic news page it seems that M25 Clockwise J30 (A13) entry slip road has been closed due to a jack-knifed lorry. Could well be it's done this whilst getting onto the M25 and has snarled everything up.

You can peek at the RAC page here as there may be other roads on their route that have accidents listed.

It's also worth having a peek at the BBC Travel Nees for Kent, which you can find here

There is also this one specific to the M25.

Cheers, guys. They're on the 1300 ferry now, and are booked into a chain hotel for their first night, so no worries about that.

That's well above average for the M25

Sounds about right to be honest, driving through rush hour probably wasn't a great idea. Would have been better off either leaving really early or going down the night before and getting a Travel Tavern in Dover. Anyway sounds like it's all sorted.

No mate, not just for the M25, that's for the WHOLE 240 mile journey

And yes, I know that section of the M25 well. Regular 7 mile tailbacks, anticlockwise, caused by..........the tolls. Which were left in place, apparently, to cut pollution.

Lunacy.

Did they not even stop for a slash?!

I'd have said 630 in Scunny for 1215 in dover is far from generous... yes it should be fine, but if you've got a hard deadline at the other end...

They're on the boat so no harm done. Might have been more fun getting the Hull boat (or Harwich) and driving down from Zeebrugge or Rotterdam.
