Just had some lovely travellers (ok, pikeys!) move in on a section of grass, that is also a public foot path, smack bang in the middle of our residential area.
Found out from the police that the section of land is owned by the local council, and it could take months to get them moved on. Apparently, the police have received over 30 calls within 5 minutes of the travellers being spotted.
All the local residents are up in arms, me included!
A) should I be worried
B) what can be done to get them moved on.

And for all you do-gooders out there, yes, I am against people using land that they don't pay for! Our council tax is high enough without these freeloaders taking the micheal!

They might be totally harmless but if you're that worried, ensure that your doors, windows, garage and shed are locked if you aren't in, don't leave washing on the line (that's been known to have been taken) and put your car in the garage. If you don't have a garage, take the aerial off the roof at night. I've lost two aerials to travellers in the past.

The thought never crossed my mind!
I was thinking of drawing up a list of caravan sites in the area, and then handing it over to our new neighbours! You never know, they might be genuinely lost!

And be careful that your local 'care in the commuity' doesn't invite them in to their flat.....they're rather difficult to get rid of as a friend who lived in the same block found out although the police were rather quick to turn up en masse at 3am - 5 cars (must have been the sum total of Herts police!!!!!)

Even if the jehovah's witnesses suddenly disappear, it's a win/win situation!
As long as they don't cause problems and move on in a month a so, I couldn't give a toss. I'll still use that section when I go for a run, if they start causing trouble and things start to go missing, i'll have to open a can of 'whoop ***' on the f*ckers!

We're stuck with them for a few weeks anyway, so I may as well use the opportunity to learn how the tax dodgers live!
The only thing in our favour is that they are now blocking a public footpath. So basically, to use the path, you have walk through the middle of a campsite.

Get a bunch of people with air rifles together and set up in nearby bushes and trees. Then shoot any Pikey in the **** if the leave their pikeyvans. See how long they hold out.

We've got a bunch of them not far from us. My car has been locked in the garage
The thing is, they bag up their rubbish, leave it on the roadside and the Council is taking it away
No Council tax paid but still get service, oh and they had notices put up for them to leave. The've took them down, cheeky beggars

Reading that site, posted above they have so many rights its stupid ! they need to be paying taxes or along with all the illegals they need kicking out !

Prepare for manky dogs running about, unruly kids throwing things at you and your property, Transit vans driving round loaded to the hilt in stolen drain covers/scrap, plooms of smoke from the burning matresses and not forgetting the pilessof Sh*t left behind when the local council finally move them on (to the next piece of derelict land).

Keep out of their way, hide everything until they've gone and leave well alone no matter how hard you think they are.

Seriously, baton down the hatches and hope they get moved on quickly. There's a reason the old bill go in mob handed, if at all, to these sites.

You have my sympathies, having dealt with the travelling community regularly in the past.

Keep everything locked. Keep the car hidden at night. Dont get pally with 'em. Dont think you can take any of them on.

Get in touch with your local Police and council and pester the **** out of them.
They can get rid of them if they're getting enough of the public bitching.

Sound advice - do not **** about with them, they are like an extended family, you mess with one, you could end up taking alot on.

just remember this simple rule if you **** them off they know where you live but you dont know were they live (well of corse they are out side your house at the mo but they do seem to be able to move and dissapear very quicky after they have done some thing) iv had no end of trouble with them but i do remember telling them caravans burn well down the phone one day and they went mad !! all else fails paint ball the caravnas at night they will soon move on

That is exactly what happened to pikeys close to my work a few years ago, the local nutters went down one night and burned out two of their caravans, they fooked off quick smart and as far as I'm aware they never returned
