Anyone know what the mark-up is for a used car, as a % would help?

Reason being, we're looking at a third car, and the price for privately sold cars, usually with less miles on and younger, is £1000 less than the equivalent car, with more miles, and/or older, from a dealer.

We're talking £2500 or just less, for a private sale, £3000-£3500 for a dealer sale.

Is this about right?

Sounds about right to me, depends on the car/dealer I suppose - I know for a fact there was a £600 mark up on my Scoob from the dealer on a car that cost me just shy of £5K. Obviously there is the warranty to take into account that you get from a dealer.

Also I would imagine the length of time the car has been on the forecourt would come into play - more popular cars will have a higher mark up that cars they struggle to shift - The scoob I bought had been in his possesion for 3 months, so he was quite keen to shift it, I would imagine a fiesta or similar small car would have a higher mark up as a percentage.
