Thumbs up Overheard this question at the Health Club last night

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this
true?

A.your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it...
Don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding
up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can
extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer?
Take a nap.

--------------------------------

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving
safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body
thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming :

Woo Hoo, what a ride!

The heart is a muscle, exercise keeps the heart strong. Exercise keeps the arteries / viens clear, to prevent the heart having to work extra to pump the blood around. Exercise tires the body, releases stress, to allow the body to rest better and sleep.

haha I wasnt meaning to sound serious. Just saying my bit. :-)

There's a good argument here, is it better to have a shorter, more fun packed life, drinking, eating, living it large, verus being sensible, living longer, but not as much fun ??

I for one, do not want to live to 90; pi55ing my self, needing to be feed, etc etc.

If you are an elephant or a dog or a pig, hamster etc it was found that the lifespan of the heart was a certain number of beats (no exact figure) so fast heartbeat = short life. No geriatric hamsters! But tortoises elephants do live longer with slow heartbeats. Humans (and I cant remember about chimpanzees etc) this was not found to be the case and is a difference with "lower animals"
Exercise is sensible for the heart in humans. Though I suppose twin studies would be a way to prove or disprove this , or clone studies, anyone (except PSL)

Dont believe all this health crap, assuming you dont live an unhealthy life there is no need to do any forced exercise, the biggest risk factors are genetic. If however you lead an unhealthy lifestyle then that is different. Humans didnt evolve to this level of ability without being able to survive without running on a treadmill 3 times a week.

It always amazes me the amount of money/time people spend in gyms to then drink/smoke to much, must be nuts. Eat healthily, don't smoke, drink in moderation and your body will do fine without any problems at all (OK not everybody but that is back to genetics which you cant change - if you are pre marked to have a heart attack then tuff ****e, you will have it.)

You can have a great life full of enjoyment and fun, and as long as you take care of yourself, you should be fit enough in your 90's to be able to walk around the place, cook and feed yourself and not **** yourself either!

We can all think of people who, at their funeral, the people say, "But he was so fit, the best at the Squah Club, ran 100miles a week" ...... "49 is no age at all is it?"

Think about it .........

You shouldn't take the p*ss!

I've got high cholesterol, went to the gym for nearly 2 years and cut out all crap food only to be told it was hereditary it wasn't going down so i've got to go on statins. Lifes a b**ch and all that! Soon dropped the gym!
