Cost Of Driving is 8% CHEAPER
Car Tax has risen, Fuel i'd say is at least (for me) more than 500 quid a year more. whilst insurance has not come down much despite my ageing years.
Maybe the cost of a car (in real terms) has come down. and then there is servicing and maintanance which i's say has risen with inflation

This is how I get into trouble - you lot!!
It was some 'GREEN' on the News complaining that the real cost of driving is now 8% cheaper than it was in 1997 ...... no-one disputed the statement.
I am simply the messenger, do not shoot me!

Take a look at: Income tax bill hits record high | UK Latest | Guardian Unlimited
"... The income tax burden has reached its highest level since records began two decades ago, official figures reveal.
The Office of National Statistics has published figures that show income tax and national insurance costs 23.6p for every £1 earned.
The latest figure shows the tax burden has reached the highest level since records began 20 years ago, having increased from roughly 18p in the pound since 1997.
In total, the nation's tax bill has risen by £219 billion since Labour came to power - the equivalent of £9,000 for each household ... "
Smoke and mirrors Pete ......
Somewhere else today it said that the last months tax take was the highest ever - and 'income tax' rates hadn't been increased at all .. h,,,. Wonder where it all came from then??

Thats OK - you are not a PLUS Member ....... I need to be VERY careful how I tread these days.
This post, if taken as Trolling by some PLUS Member, would get me BANNED
-- it's something I heard this morning on the News - just throwing it open for discussion.

Income tax revenue last month was 22.5 BILLION. Highest since 1962 when the highest tax bracket was 91%
- The extra revenue comes from pushing more people into the 40% bracket by not increasing allowances and bandings with inflation.
Rising fuel costs, and tax,and insurance.Together with toll cost's,how the **** can anybody say that the cost of motoring has dropped
Any simpleton,can see,it is higher.

Any simpleton,can see,it is higher.

It's actually meaningless, as we all know

PSL,
Can you tell us what the British National Debt is at the moment and how it compares with its level when your heros took power for the first time?
What do you think will happen when the IMF tells Flash, as they told Callaghan, that they will not lend us any more money?

1. Don't believe everything you hear (what else would you expect a 'green' to say?)
2. Don't spew it back out without qualifying it first.
Trouble is, because of your blind love for NL, everything you pre-fix with '1997' now gets (rightly or wrongly) labelled as a political troll. You only have yourself to blame.
Cheers

I'd like to know exactly what "in real terms" means because as far as I can tell, it's as real as it gets already, and it's just used to pad out sentences or justify without explanation.

If the gov stopped giving all our money away to 3rd world countries and charities then the UK could be a much better place and flash wouldn't need to borrow off the IMF.
