Apologies before I get going, I know I've posted similar threads in the past.

Just been reading the STi review, by David Ross.

Pretty good as far as it goes, until you get to the last paragraph.

"With Richard Burns becoming the first UK driver to capture the World Rally Championship crown this year, Subaru is on a high...."

As far as I know this guy is Scottish, used to write for the P&J, so what the hell's going on here then?

Mike.

well you could say its grammtically correct.

'first UK driver to capture the World Rally Championship crown this year'

no other uk driver has won the world rally crown THIS YEAR

You could also say that'd only be correct if the championship was contested more than once a year?

I'll be arguing with myself next... and I started this thread.

The point was that PTHOLT's statement would only be true if the championship was run again this year, if you see what I mean.

So in other words I don't think it's poorly phrased, it's just plain wrong.

D Brown - was going to email scottishmotors@the-sun.co.uk, but that looks better, thanks.

Mike.
