In fact if you boogie over to http://www.scan.co.uk/today.htm and scroll down the list of items for sale you'll come across the plextor Internal IDE - 24 x 10 x 40
£107.00 + del + vat.
Sounds pretty good to me.
Forgot to add, cdmediaworld also takes elements into account that reputable magazines would dare not print.
e.g. mp3, removal of copy protection, over burning, which software is best for what type of copying etc.

I'm thinking of buying the Yamaha CD-RW model CRW 2200EZ, (been recommended by a friend), coz my Phillips one has decided to RIP, plus it was only a 4x4 pre historic one.
Anyone had experience with the Yamaha CRW 2200? Is it any good?
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Yamaha cd writers used to be the mutts about 18 months ago or so, but have since been eclipsed (in my opnion) by the plextors.
I've so far had one phillips writer (that died twice and had to be fixed)
two yamahas (both very good)
and my current plextor (better than all of them!)
for reviews of current writers and software etc check out

I've got the TDK Cyclone 24x10x40 Burn Proof retail kit.
PC Pro did various benchmarks on a big stack of CD-Rs as whilst back and the TDK came out top.
I'll try to find the review URL.

From what I read on the cd media world site the 16x plextor was slightly better than the 20x Yamaha, which was the one I was considering. The plextor 24x one will definately be even better and at that price I'll be ordering it. I'll wait a little longer for Chris's link, if he finds it, so I can also compare cost. But at this stage it looks like I'll be going for the plextor 24x
Cheers for the info fellas, much appreciated, power of scoobynet

Ignore any script errors you get as you are going straight to the review.

Interesting review, tho i noticed the plextor they compared against was a 16 speed and its been out for quite some time as thats the exact model ive got which i purchased lsat year i think it was.
shame they couldnt test it with the plextor 24/10/40 that scan are selling for £107 (where they quote the tdk as £156!!).
am starting to wonder if this is an old review perhaps?
check out this for a cheap price on a plextor -
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=30291
or the tdk is here -
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=26863
Tho looking at the age of the review i would say the plextor is the newer drive otherwise it would have been in the group test as well surely?

To those in the know, Plextor have always been the superior product, but buy SCSI - you know its the only true multi-tasking interface of any worth.

saw an ad in the daily star that pc world are doing an 24x ide cdrw for 100 inc vat or close to that price...
Personally I would get SCSI CDRW and a SCSI cdrom...
depends on what you want to spend though..

My phillips and two yamaha drives were both scsi and very good they were for there time to.
But the 16/10/40 ide plextor has really impressed me, i get much fewer coasters than i did with my scsi drives and can write at max speed and still able to use the pc (whereas just surfing would kill the yamaha)

Sure is a tough one now, Plextor or TDK. It is a shame that both 24x writers aren't in that test. The TDK is the 24x but the Plextor is the 16x. It's a guessing game now. I suppose I can't go wrong with either, maybe the Plextor I think.
Thanks again for that valuable information and for pointing me out to those links. They are indeed cheap prices.
Cheers,
Wrexy.
