Read the spec, "Resolution 852x480 - Display Format 480p". Even though it has HDMI, it isn't HD. It needs to be at least 720p with the ability to downscale 1080p/i. Old technology, hence the price.

Heard in the trade yesterday there's supposed to be another drop in the retail price of LCD and Plasma panels soon. Worth waiting TBH. Even so you can get the brand new Samsung 42" plasma, for a little over £800.

Agree with corradoboy.plasmas are old technology and as such have reached their limits but if its cheap and your happy with the picture go get it because the lastest on the market will be nearly double the price.LCD is the way to go stiill a bit of mileage left in that technology apparently

LCDs are so much cheaper to make because the scrap rate on them is tiny compared to Plasma.

The only reason that LCDs have been sitting at the Plasma price is because people were paying that for them ..... the 'early taker' mugs have now bought and the stubborn customers are the ones left - and they ain't paying any mark-ups

Expect the price of LCDs to fall quite considerably over the Spring/Summer .... buy in Autumn

The price of LCD TV's seem to have fallen quite sharply recently - decent top brand 32" models are available for under £550 now online.

I'm holding out for genuine 1080line screens to go into mainstream. Should make the 720line screens worth peanuts

I don't think that what corradoboy was saying at all - he was saying that this particular model is old hat because of its resolution and the fact its not HD ready. Plasma technology is going just fine and most will agree that on balance in the 42"+ range Plasma is still the dominant, superior technology. I've got a 42" plamsa and a 32" LCD both of which perform their function but the plasma walks the LCD.

My Sony 42" Plasma with progressive scan gives such a good picture that HD would just be gilding the lily and a waste of money!

Saxoboy is right, I may have been misunderstood. Plasma is still much better than LCD IMHO, as LCD suffers awful refresh rates, unrealistic colour and lousy contrast and black levels. Some of the latest LCD's have improved this, but my weapon of choice in this arena remains plasma, until SED and OLED start fighting for the marketplace. My concern was that the panel suggested by the original poster was 2-3 year old technology and PDP's have come quite a way since then. I have compared 1080p LCD's and the new Pioneer 1080p PDP with 720p PDP's and I couldn't justify the extra expense of the £6k true HD plasma over the 720p, and wouldn't consider the LCD. I have recently bought a 50" Panasonic for IRO £1.5k (inc 5yr warranty which is essential) and cannot fault it. 42" models are now around £800.

My advice remains, find the best price you can from a store (not net only), ensure they have stock available, find the nearest John Lewis to them and try for a pricematch, get the pricematch code and call your local JL to order and arrange delivery and benefit from the free 5yr warranty. Sorted

My 40" LCD is equal to any plasma that I saw when it was new just over a year ago. It must have made Zurich's eyes water at £3,800 though.
