Default what tax makes you the maddest

seeing as we taxed for everything we do i was wondering what you people think is the worst or unfairest tax we pay, it can be one of the main tax's like n.i, income, council etc or a stealth one which might surpise a few of us on here.

mine has to be the road tax £96 to drive my car on these uneven, pot holed jammed roads i heard they take £47BILLION in road tax but only put £5BILLION back now that is disgusting makes you wonder where they waste £42 billion

carpet ones, I really hate them, especially when you stand on them in bare feet

it is well known that the Road Fund License etc does not go into maintaining and repairing the roads

Would be nice if they "wasted" it on the railways to bring them up to European standards and speeds.
Might even make the roads less congested.

Inheritance tax. A last tax on you after your death even though you've paid all the tax you've owned all your life. The govt decides it should basically split almost half half with them, just allow you to die

As above, inheritance tax.

No wonder they want us all to own our own homes and save, save, save. It's so they can have 40% of your lifes savings.

Another vote for Inheritance tax. You pay tax when you earn it, you pay tax if you spend it, you pay tax if you save it and you pay tax when you cark it.

Never a truer word was spoken.

If it weren't for decent planning / accountants / avoidance we'd all be fooked.

If you are a Chav Doley - you get everything paid for you; House, Food, Clothes, Council tax, Utilities, School, Healthcare, TV etc etc

If you are a High earning TOFF - You employ a smart brief and accountant so you pay naff all Tax as it's all in offshore accounts and paid in Gold Bullion, Diamonds, Bonds etc.

Sadly - If you are stuck in the middle we pay out for both the others and THEN some.

Fuel tax as it is the biggest load of wrap it up in green issues lets please the lefty tree huggers bollocks way of scamming money out of people there is.

Lets face it, air pollution is mostly down to other factors than the motorist and has yet to be proved to be causing global warming which is probably just a natural phenomemon. Yet most of the population will buy into it because it is the green thing to do.

Or speed cameras. Road safety, my ****. The wife gets done at 34 on a 1 mile straight country road with no houses but is still a 30, yet 200yds away I have to dodge trucks doing 40-50 whilst trying to cross the main road to my daughters school.

Its not really a tax but i begrudge the £135 television license fee just to watch bbc television.

Do what ITV do and include adverts in the programmes to fund the cost of paying ars*holes like Jonathan Ross £8m a year.

Dont like paying car tax when we are raped elsewhere on fuel and insurance.

Hate paying £120 a month council tax to have a binman throw my rubbish into a lorry once a fortnight

I dont mind paying income tax/NI as we do benefit from free healthcare.

Thats about it i think

Council tax is probably the most unfair tax. The value/size of your property has no bearing on your ability to pay.

Inheritance tax is a somewhat unpopular, and it is easy to see why, but in essence it is not an "unfair" tax.

I booked at the beginning of the year to travel on a sleasey jet to prague paid all my fuel taxes etc, then I had to pay a fee as I was booking on a credit card.
Stelios was on BBC news this morning saying every one who travels after the 1st feb has to pay passenger tax as well.

I understand why they are doing it but some type of warning when I was booking my flight would be nice

Inheritance tax, the point at which you qualify is now set at £285,000 pounds. i.e. The price of an average 3 bedroom semi in most parts of SE london.

Excuse me, so, I work all my life pay income tax, NI, VAT, tax on my savings and on the interest on my savings, car tax, council tax, tax on petrol, booze **** and anything else fun and now you want to take away 40% of whatever I leave behind.

**** RIGHT OFFF I'd rather give it to a Battersea dogs home!!!

Frankly, I don't even want people who get left a fortune to pay it. Someone EARNED that money (god knows that's hard enough in Blair's Britain) and paid tax on it. IT IS THEIRS, the government should let them do with it as they please.

Avoiding Inheritance Tax is not just for the Uber rich, get off your fat ***** and do something about. You all seem very adept at using the internet, do some research. There are loads of ways for you to make massive savings, moaning isn't one of them FFS!

Wouldn't it have been less effort/nicer to give people a few URLs to look at!!

I think you'll find that most people (including me) were just ranting at the principle and had not necessarily resigned themselves to paying it!!

Yes, but the person recieivng it didn't earn or pay tax on it, that's the whole justification behind the tax.

You have a tax free allowance on what you earn, and a threshold before which you do not pay any tax (obviously you only pay the 40% on inheritance over and above £285,000).

To give an analogy, when you buy a house you have to pay stamp duty, when a second hand car salesman sells a second hand car, he has to pay tax as a result. There are several examples where different people have to pay tax on the same item. And thats the key, the person is taxed, not the item - The fact that inheritance has already had tax paid on it through income tax, or savings tax, or VAT whatever is irrelevant.

Of course I would rather not pay inheritance tax, but it is not "unfair".

tbh tax rate has nothing to do with government spending, they wouldn't know how to organise a **** up in a brewry without commities and reports.

take for example the new wembley stadium, that could have been built for £200million if done correctly, but instead its cost £740million
