His was a bargain that came out of fire/smoke damaged premises and although he wouldn't say what he paid in the back hander, I know it was less than £1k
It didn't have any packaging, paperwork or brackets etc so I mounted it after I modded a HUGE trade Sony bracket and used 8# 100mm bolts into the brickwork.

 

Free delivery nationwide. To get the free 5yr Panasonic warranty though you must visit the store in person. Driving to Bolton on monday to save myself £550

 

About 250 sqft with 9' ceilings I hope to have it set up a bit like this....

From what I can gather on AVForums, only the Fujitsu 58 range now better the Panny's. Even the Pioneer's have slid into 3rd place, with LG in 4th.

How the hell can they do it for 57% less than RRP? Looks like a nice set - would be too big for my room so I'll have to make do with the 42" PHD9 that's getting delivered next Tuesday

Glad you are happy with HD ready , however at that spec even such a 50" screen has less pixels than either my 20" desktop monitor or my 15" laptop screen. It wont be able to display full HD from Blu Ray or HD-DVD either (1920 x 1080).

I'm sure its a great looking piece of furniture, but isnt it all a bit 'forget the quality, but feel the length' or am I missing something here?

they know that they arent all that yet and its prob a couple of years before the proper 50" screens are down to that money .....so in the meantime they are making them cheap for people to buy with credit cards and impress their mates who wouldnt know a pixel from their popcorn.

The "Pixel War" is pub bragging techno-bollox for people whom can't see past specification figures. For many years Pioneer plasma's have been the best pictures out there, even though they had a paltry 3000:1 contrast ratio and lower pixel count. They were better because the panels were higher quality, even though they had lower resolution; and the image processing was leagues ahead of the other manufacturers, and hence they could justify almost double the price for what appeared to be lower spec until you actually did a proper comparison side-by-side and looked at the picture instead of the numbers in the back of the brochure. Similarly, the new Fujitsu 58 range is currently the best, and by a long margin (I have done a group test against the Panny and Pio's and it won comfortably), yet it is still only 768 res. The new Pio 5000 50" set costing nearly £6k is true 1080, and yet the picture isn't as good Compare it maybe to saying a £50k TVR has much more power and a higher top speed than a Scoob so it must be faster. We all know it is, on a long straight road, but in real world driving on twisty, wet, undulating British A/B roads, Scoobs and Evo's et-al kill pretty much everything with just 220-300bhp. Similarly, a Sony Cybershot can be bought with 10.1 megapixels, but you ask a photographer if it takes better images than a 5mp Canon 350D or similar digital SLR I'm not out to impress my mates, as I don't have many and certainly not many whom ever call to be showed off to I am however a person whom has desires to own quality things but at realistic prices. I have wanted a PDP to compliment my AV surround set-up for quite a few years, and have held off for many reasons, price being primary, but can now justify the quality of this set at this price level. It's only £200 dearer than my Sony 32" CRT was, and that was again a careful purchase made at a good price based on getting the best specification I could justifiably afford. Some people can just never be happy for others can they

you my son have saved me a packet as i didnt fancy parting with 2 thousand plus for a crappy make

I visit the telly shop all the time wishing and hoping that something, anything, has come in that is a patch on my 12 year old Sony CRT in terms of picture quality on standard inputs .................. time and again I leave very disappointed!!

I desperately WANT to spend up to £2000, I desperately WANT a big screen TV, I desperately WANT the picture to impress me ..................... they fail again and again

I cannot be alone in thinking these TVs are just for those blinded by the size and glamour????????????? My eyes tell me, quite clearly, that the quality of the pictures on the signal I can receive is utter garbage

 

Had my Panasonic Viera a couple of months now, it's spot on. Wipes the floor with most of the other stuff iv'e seen. Enjoy

I know where you're coming from Pete, I too have seen just how shocking these sets can be displayed when not properly connected. I have also seen them demonstrated when set up by people who know their ****, and when fed decent source material they simply shine. Go to a specialist who is running BBC HD, Discovery HD or NatGeo HD from the Astra satellite, or has a HD-DVD player connected through HDMI and you will realise their potential. If you've only seen them in Curry's, Comet or Dixons you haven't seen what they can do. The size of the screen will always exaggerate the imperfections of SD analogue broadcasts, but we are at a technology crossover where the new is compromise by the old until everything catches up. Feed the new with digital HD media and you will see where they are. I fully intend to replace my NTL with Astra (free Sky ) and will be going Hi-Def with a disc player as soon as a combo HD-DVD/BluRay multi-region recorder is available. Freeview is a bonus.

 

I'm going to be rich!

What with tiny speakers and wood floors?

Picture may be OK but the sound wouldn't even rival a decent multiplex.

With that size of room you need big floor standers, big subs and some soft floor coverings and furnishings.
