I always got tatered playing it stand alone.

Does it suffer lag on line, do you have to play a single event, like say Monopoly or Cluedo? Are you immune while offline?

 

Baz - it lags if you have a sh1te connection and a sh1te PC.

Haven't got it installed ATM but I'll chuck it back on my PC at home for a bash with some other ScoobyNetters.

 

Smart! Make sure you get the patch to 1.0c as it doesn't work with different patch versions in multiplayer.

I have a Pentium PIII 866, 256 mb memory, Geforce2 AGP graphics and ADSL.

Does that constitute $hite? Because I get lag on Counter Strike and Ultima Online.

What I meant by the last bit was as it is a turn based game, do you all have to arrange to be on line for 4 hours until it ends or what?

**** I have Age of Kings installed. Age of Empires is at the in-laws down in Essex. Bah!
Does the game play on in the background even when you are not there?

Is the Conquerers edition a war game or summat?

Barry, what do you mean by 'turn based game' this kind of implies that you have to wait for one player to take their turn before you continue. I have played AOE on numerous occasions and you just go about doing your own thing until either you attack someone or someone attacks you.

It is one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played, it is primarily a stragegy based game. you can have about 10 players if my memory serves me right depending on which game you play (standard, deathmatch, regicide, etc..) The length of the game very much depends on what you start with (IE you start at the first AGE then it can take hours, however if you start at imperial age then all you have to do is chop some wood, get some food, mine some gold/stone, build some building and then fight.

It's not turn based but can take 10 mins or 4 hours.... you can play 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 .....
Conquerors edition is the latest update for Age of Empires 2.

Go to zone.msn.co.uk and find Age of Empires, download all the microsoft pish required, once in there, you'll find about 30ish styles of games e.g. Feudal, rated, deathmatch.
Deathmatch is the best, no pissing about for resources.
Anyway there are 6 deathmatch rooms with 75 slots, each of which can have up to 8 players. You host one of these yourself and choose the settings, map, no. of players etc...

Re lag: You can see everyones ping and boot people out of the game with **** ping. You need a decent processor cos an 8 player game could have 200 men each, therefore 1600 little things wot need to be mapped.
It's a bugger to find people, but if you add them to friends (in the wee blue zone thingy) then you can chat etc. you need to know their nickname first tho....
I will be playing it till my eyes fall out on Wednesday evening.

I had a 7 hour game with someone, I thought I was playing for about an hour. AOE2 is deffinately one of the most involving I have ever played. Me and my mate used to be pretty damn good back in the day, there are some pretty hot players out there on the net though, some are too good! MONK I NEED A MONK

Played this awhile ago on-line. Great fun. Not played the Conq exp on-line yet. I've been lured into CS by some members of this BBS , but can give this ago it you like...

Defo one of the best games around. I played it so much on day, that whenever I looked at someone I would mentally click them to select them!
