Speed SCamera question
I have noticed the Speed Camera at the end of the M62 now has two black cables running from the Camera across all three lanes to the central reservation
Any idea what these are for?
Ive also noticed that since they have been fitted, the camera goes off quite a lot more, no matter what speed you do
For instance this morning I was driving about 5mph (50 mph speed limit) and as I drove over these black cables the camera went off
Now as I was only doing 5mph it would have picked up the car about 4 cars in front of me
I see this happen most mornings, is this a new way of the government ripping more money out of us for now not going fast enough

They are the new minimum speed cameras. Drive too slowly on the motorway and you will get a fine
No idea really, maybe something they are something the stasi are experimenting with?

Hi Camera isnt spelt with an S The camera is there to catch
n0bheads who cant drive within the boundaries set out by law
Onto the answer.
More often than not they are there to count traffic volume I believe.
It may be that St Helens folks dreams are to come true and they are considering building a 500 foot concrete wall all the way round the Liverpool city border. The proposed wall is to have no doors and no windows. A large hosepipe will be fed over the top and ahhhhhh, and then I wake up and it was all a dream
I'm not well today and I'm grumpy Sodding man flu

Two black lines/cables across the road are normally one of the *passive* speed monitoring devices. They just record time/date/speed of vehicles crossing them. If they are you'll see them attached a box which is padlocked to a post at the side of the road. I've seen them being used by cameras around here - I'm assuming that they're just carrying out some form of speed survey.

They are stand alone pieces of kit used by the highways authority to measure traffic flow & volume. They are normally installed near road signs, Scameras, street lights, etc, for the convenience of a power source.
FYI, Abdabz the 'S' in Scamera is silent, like the 'H' in Honest

The traffic monitors are quite sophisticated devices, being able to detect different groups of vehicles as well speed/ numbers etc. This depends on the tube spacing. The data is used by various organisations(supermarkets, developers police, councils etc0. One of the biggest firms in this traffic data collection, is a company called 'Count on us'
