Somewhere warm and away from the media circus.
I instantly thought "jamaica" but her indoors said she aint got that sort of money.

*buggering off* is maybe a bit harsh

But a couple of weeks in the sunshine and NO Christmas commercialisation (sp) would be heaven

It's only commercialisation if you let it. Why not stay and try to capture the real spirit of Christmas, hard as it may be. After all you will only have to come back here.

Nice edit BTW

Don't get me wrong it's not purely to get away from the media circus.
Just that there is nothing different or exciting about staying here over that period. 33 years of the same thing is getting tiring.
Half the family I don't want to spend Christmas with, the other half are in Indonesia or somewhere (I forget what it said on my birthday card last week) only contact I've had for about two years lol.

No problem....but go because you want something better not because you're running away. And I sort of agree with Einstein but if there's a chance to do anything and have the sunshine...that's my choice

His supposed dying words..

Even you, Brutus.

Can't quite work out the relevance though

Go on my own. FFS
Sipping rum on a beach bar on my own on Christmas day.
What a nice feeling of Christmas that would be.

Correct. The relevance being I'm imploring you to stay and spread a bit of true Christmas spirit, and Lou drops the bombshell from the blind side!

The grass is always greener, hey? We don't really like Christmas in Portugal as it isn't really Christmas - no snow (well, last year was different ), no falling leaves, no seeing your breath in the morning...

(Awaits flood of requests for a house swap...)

You can come and see my breath in the morning any day you like and you can scrape the ice off my windows and you can choose the warmest coat you have..............and you can drive home from w*rk every night in the dark and never see your neighbours til the weekends....................and have the central heating up high........................and, yes, let me be in Portugal and let me moan at all the nasty things going on there

TBH everything you describe about the winter days sounds 'cool'. Crisp, icy mornings coupled with beautiful winter sunrises..........

I'll get in before anyone else does. I wouldn't mind doing Jordan desert or no desert!
