Pretty much the same trip backwards i did in 91-92.

Best experience of my life - don't worry theres a huge Backpacker Trail thing, you'll meet & lose people all through different countries only to re-meet them a few months later

One bloke did a runner from a Dive Course we were doing in Fiji so he did'nt have to pay (we ended up sharing his cost ) - only for us to stop on a road in the middle of nowhere in NZ to pick up a hitchhiker - and guess who stuck his head in the car.......priceless......LOL

South east asia\Indoenesia is fab - enjoy....

Came back TOTALLY skint - and I mean *totally* - a guy picked up my bag to carry it into Kathmandu airport (my last stop) and I had'nt got a single coin to give him - he didn't believe me and was royally pissed off - I did try to warn him though

Just have the time of your life but be aware of your surroundings and be safe , what type of vehicle are you using for the overland from nairobi to cape town ?

its an organised 2 month safari so should be pretty safe....cant wait to do the gorilla trekking that i've paid for in advance....you get to sit next to them in Uganda in small groups guarded by local police....just hope one doesn't want a hug!

Nairobi to Cape Town over land - that's going to be a long journey - take an inflatable cushion - you'll be spending more time on the murram than on the roads. Took us 2 days to get from Nairobi to Mombasa due to huge sections of road being washed away in recent rains.

I'd love to get to Everest base camp myself, although you need to do it slowly to acclimatize, so that might be out of the question!

Sounds awesome to me, sure you'll have a superb time!

Done Hong Kong, Bali and Australia (a year in Oz, 2 weeks in Bali and 2 weeks in HK), and found HK and Bali great places. Bali was full of Aussies and the locals were quite friendly and welcoming. Kuta is very touristy as are most of the temples unfortunately.

Australia was just awesome, managed to do the entire country (well, almost!), how long will you be there for? Western Australia is THE best part of Oz IMO!

Its certainly not cheap. RTW ticket was £2500 incl taxes. Insurance for a year was £370. The Africa trip alone is £3500 - not really a true 'traveller' thing to do but it was an experience that i wanted to do before i die. Spend 2 months on the road in Africa...just prefer to do it on an semi-organised tour in a place like that....

I am going to be trekking in Nepal for a few weeks at least. Everest base camp is a definite possibility. Going to look up some local tour operators when i get there because its meant to be pretty easy to do when you're there.

Its just so good knowing that i can go and don't even have to come back if i don't want....just want to make it a real adventure for myself...you know when you were a kid and you just wanted to go exploring....kinda like that except a bit more serious!

on my own. I weighed up the option of going with a mate but decided that there are going to be loads of times when he wouldn't want to do what i wanted to do and we'd end up arguing....would rather do things on my own terms and at my own pace....i'm sure i'll meet a tonne of people on route anyway....

Have a wonderful time and make sure you get a load of photos! Much easier now with digital cameras etc and the web - unlike in 93-96 when I was travelling!
Thoroughly recommned Koh Tao - an island off the east coast of Thailand
ENJOY!
