is there a doctor in the house?
when i woke up this morning I thought I had been bitten a couple of times on the inside of my ankle and thought nothing of it but as they day has gone on the whole area has 'puffed up' like a sprain, I've got less and less movement in the joint and the skin is going black/green...
Getting to see my doctor is murder not to mention half a day off work so wondered if anyone had some USEFUL suggestions before I waste my annual leave?

you may have been bitten by a brown recluse spider which is highly toxic/venomeous. It isnt native to this country but there have been some reported bites due to the little buggers coming in accidently. (without passports as well - immigration isnt what it used to be)
Once bitten, the venom actually kills the skin and flash, turning it green and black. Dont want to scare you but you may be like Heather McCartney soon!

It could be a bed-mite or mosquito bite - hard to tell without a proper examination but get to your doctor or NHS drop-in centre and let them have a look. Possibly some antibiotics or antiseptic cream will sort you out.

[quote=mad_dr]Good effort and it probably IS a bite of some kind but the odds of it being a spider bite are infinitesimally small. Not to mention the fact that most spider bites do not anaesthetise as they are applied – you would know if you were being bitten! In addition, necrotisation of the flesh and skin would usually take place over a longer period - say a week or two.

I was joking about the recluse spider, however the effects of them can be visible in hours and not weeks depending on the severity of the bite

Well by lunchtime the pain was up to my kneee so phoned good old nhs direct and after giving them my life story, bra size and bowel habits they finally told me: you probably need a prescription of antibiotics. Go to the NHS walk in centre.
NHS drop in centre: you've been bitten, you need a prescription for anti biotics. Phone this number when you get home and get an out of hours doctors appointment.
Out of hours helpline, after giving address, tel no, dob, symptoms, name and number of doctor: you need to call this number
Out of hours helpline 2: after giving address, tel no, dob, symptoms, name and number of doctor: Ummm actually this is the district nurse number we cant help you but try this number....
me: But thats the number I just called and got thru to you
OOHH2: No its not
Me: yes it is
OOHH2: No its not, we're the district nurse....
Me: I (bleep) know
OOHH2: try it again
Me: No, I'll get thru to you
OOHH2: You wont, this is the right number
Me: Right bet me your months salary that I wont get thru to the same team again
OOHH2: I cant do that
Me: FINE!
(click)
ring ring,
Person answering the phone: XXXXXX District Nurse Centre
Me: me again
OOHH2: Oh
So anyway, finally she tells me she will arrange for someone to call me within an hour.
Someone calls, takes my address, tel no, dob, symptoms, name and number of doctor.... then as its an 'urgent need' someone will call me back within 2 hours
2 1/2 hours later
ring, ring, its a doctor - hurrah!
Doctor: I need your address, tel no, dob, symptoms, name and number of doctor.
Doctor: Ok you need a prescription for antibiotics.
Me: No, really? you think?
3 hours and 11 minutes after arriving at the hospital, having only paid for 3 hours car parking, I finally walk out with the hallowed prescription...
...only to find another peice of paper for me carefully placed under my windscreen wiper.
it just not fair
