Question Help - football quiz question

How many people are on the pitch at one time ?

I reckon 25 - 2 teams of 11, refereee & 2 linesmen - but are the linesmen technically on the pitch ?

My kids have a world cup quiz sheet from school - I know **** all about the game, but I managed all the other questions through the power of Google...

I'd say 23 as once the ball crosses the line it is technically out of play and the linesmen are behind the line.

Surely all the players should have 2 *****, so including the streaker that would be 49.

.... technically any player has to ask permission from the ref before leaving the pitch. So, if a player goes off to take a throw in, technically he should ask the ref before doing so. He doesnt, so is it because:

A. There is an unwritten rule saying he doesnt need to, or,
B. The pitch extends to the surrounding area.

If its B, then technically the linesman are on the pitch.

Always happy to add confusion where once there was clarity!

You don't have to field a team of 11 though, you could play 10 players
