Dont bother, you can get it unlocked - but you wont get much use out of it before they ring you up and say its been reported lost or stolen, then they cut it off.

You need to get the IMEI number changed but for somebody to do that is illegal. Doesn't mean people wont though.

what is so hard about it? I reported my phone as lost and had it cut off, I then found it under the seat in the car and called them back and told them.

You will never guess what they did next after asking me a few questions!!!!! thats right the reactivated it.

Just get your mate to call orange and say he found the phone again they will ask him some private questions about his details to prove he is who he says he is and they will unbar the phone.

The phone will be greylisted by Orange, rather than blacklisted. Greylisting means it can be taken off the barring registers, as opposed to not being able to with blacklisting.

Contact the service provider.

If the phone's been reported as lost to the insurers, and they've paid out, then it belongs to them now, anyway.

I was under the impression if you were using a lost phone you could get it unlocked down the local market, but not use it on the said network it was registered with, as soon as it's used they'll know.

There was something on this a few years back, most networks kept records of the phones EMI's..etc. but never shared their information between operators, so say a phone barred on Orange, but unlocked and used on Voda-ripoff, there's no tracking but if you tried to use it on Orange it would flag up as being lost/stolen.

This info is from memory and may not be totally true before anyone jumps on me. Surely someone must be on here who works for a phone company and can confirm the procedure.
