Default Moral or not?

Tv I bought two weeks prior to Xmas is reduced by £200. The shop in question has a 28 day returns policy. Can I buy a new one and take it back on the old receipt? Should I?

Swapping TVs - immoral.

Taking your old one back for refund, then buying a new one £200 cheaper - certainly worth a shot!

Fine line though, if i took the original back boxed and bought a new one, that would be ok, but buying a new one and returning it on the old receipt is probably a bit naughty. Still 200 notes though.

Dont see why you cant take the original back?

Or possibly just ask them for a £200 refund

Unfortunately i suspect that they will only be able to refund what they are currently charging for the tele..... worth a shot though

I don't think you have to have the box, just proof of purchase.

Edited to say this is generally true but may be part of their 28 day return policy.

Was it a shock to find consumer electronics cheaper a few days after Christmas?
Is that the same as the trains stopping every winter when it gets cold and strange white stuff falls from the sky?
Keep the telly and learn the lesson.
IMHO

If its the same store, you may not need to even move the TV. A few years back we got a Hi Fi thing from Comet which was then reduced a few days later. They just gave us the refund.

Hello

You are allowed to take things back and get the money you paid for it. Most stores operate this policy. You can then buy the new one for £200 less.

I doubt they will give you the refund.

You haven't got an automatic right to ask for a refund unless goods are faulty. But as a matter of goodwill many stores will still offer refund with proof of purchase.

nope - buying a new tele two weeks before christmas just cost him. How does this sound - you knew the price when you bought it and you were happy to pay it. Live with it. You take it back, get a refund save 200 quid - they send it back to the manufacturer (as they haven't a box so they can't resell it - manufacturer loses 600 quid or whatever, so the next 600 of us have to pay an extra quid. If you want to be fair and hinest about it, put a post on here asking for 600 people to give you a quid cos you wanted the TV in December at January prices..... basically the same thing, but you are being honest

Hello

Yes, I agree. That's what I said most stores operate this policy. It isn't a legal requirement. Although there is some "change of mind" legality within a few days unless they specifically have terms against it that you are shown and agree to.

Hang on, missing the point here, I don't have the box, I have no plans to return the TV I have. My suggestion is to buy a brand new boxed TV, and take it back unopened using my old till receipt.

For the record I was happy to pay the price I paid, I'm not pissed off it has dropped £200 and in the general scheme of things, not a great deal of money. I knew the chances of getting a good deal in the sales, however I have enjoyed the set for nearly 3 weeks now and wouldn't have waited even in hindsight.

Free £200 though

Exclamation

At least give them a ring and ask for a discount.

If stores have a change of mind policy ,like many do,Argos,House of Fraser etc, then use it.Nothing immoral about it.

*what* has that got to do with it...he's hardly robbing an old lady, its a store. They make enough money as it is.

Aside from this, someone at work today took something back to boots and they only gave the price it is now in the sale.

A consumer has absolutely no right to change their mind after a face to face transaction. The only circumstances are where the distance selling laws are applicable.

"OK Sir, you want to return the TV. That's fine - do you have your receipt? You do, well that's great. One second Sir while we swipe the barcode on the box.

Excuse me Sir, the barcode registers as a For Sale discounted item which doesn't match the receipt. Would you have a moment to step this way......"
