Texas Hold'em
Right, I'm after a few tips on how to fleece my mates tonight. Any of you chaps play regularly and have any decent tips and pointers?
I've read the websites etc, so no links please, just 1st hand experiences.
Cheers!

Play tight - only good hands. Don't call raises with dominated hands like A5,A9, etc because when the flop comes Axx and you mate shows you AK you'll feel dumb. Don't be afriad to raise and continue to be aggressive. Selective aggression is the key trait in poker. GL

You have to be able to assess what others might have and also to work out the odds.
People can tell you all about it but the only real way is to get experience by playing and hope its not too expensive a lesson.

Cheers. I think you're probably right there Les.
I'm going to take on a character tonight though to look the business. Dusting down the cowboy hat, and getting some shades on.
Wonder if I can borrow a waistcoat from the local curry house?

if you are playing tourney with rebuys- REBUY loads, spend a MOUNTAIN of money. Two things will happen, either you will get lucky and win or you will look like a wild maniac (either are quite cool)
if you are playing cash RAISE EVERYTHING (unless you are not the bloke with the biggest wallet)
if you are asking these questions this late you are stuffed anyway.

Straight cash = fights / arguments / broken noses / people going home early etc.
Depends on your pals
ps Tiggs may have a different and more accurate definition - and I have no idea what a "rebuy" is.

I've played in a few games of both types (tourneys & cash) & much preferred tourneys, from an enjoyment perspective.
Basically, we all chipped in a fiver (there were 6 players) & got a stack of chips (say 1000). There were 5 rebuys available, so when someone lost all their chips they could rebuy a new stack for another fiver (also if there was only 1 or 2 rebuys left & you were really low on chips, you could rebuy).
When all the rebuys were used, if you lost your chips you were out. Peopel dropped out till the winner had all the chips. The cash was then split between first & second (75\25).
A good site for more info on setting up a home tourney is here Clicky

Much appreciated.
I'd say we were going to be playing tourney then by the sounds of your descriptions.
Just going off to practice my poker face in the mirror.

Ive always found it best to be unpredictable, if your convincing them you have something when you havent then changing you game around so that your not easy to work out.
90% of the time I know my mate trys to buy a pot when everyone is cautious but with a high card I'll play him to the death, problem with me is that other 10% is when I'll have gone all in and he clears me out. I know his game but Im too much of a sucker to let him have the pot...lol

Forgot to add, with tourneys you'll normally get to play a good few of them in a night, so it keeps people interested.
Normally, I'll only play premium hands early on (AA, KK, QQ) unless it's cheap to get into the pot. When a few people have dropped out & your nearer the cash, you can then start pushing.
