The panda will be right at home with all the ethnics up there, it's probably found a nice new family to live with, no doubt they'll be happy as they can claim more benefit.

The news article refers to the Red Panda which is now more endangered that the Giant Panda. The Red Panda is endangered mainly because of loss of habitat caused by humans.
The Giant Panda is also endangered due to loss of habitat, but in addition, the female Giant Panda is "in heat" only for 3 days every year. A baby Panda is helpless & needs substantial effort from the mother Panda for a prolonged period. This contributes to the fact that after habitat destruction the Giant Panda is unable to recover as quickly as say rabbits, or humans.
