There has'nt been a rock thread for a while - DIO
Just back from the Glasgow Carling Academy.
Ticket says doors open at 7
but the band got there late & are still diong the sound check - so doors don't open till 7.40 - we all wait in the cold Glasgow night air.
There is no support band as DIO are playing the entire Holy Diver album & other old songs
The band eventually come on at 8.50 with no sorry's or explanations - but the crowd have already forgiven them and go nuts - they open with Tarot Woman
Doug Aldrich has replaced Craig Goldy - from DIO website -
"The Niji Management camp reports that Craig Goldy hurt his arm while touring Russia and has been trying to continue to play the shows on painkillers, but it has now become impossible for him to continue. Therefore, Doug Aldrich will be stepping in for him from Eindhoven and will play the rest of the tour, including the UK."
Doug is a cool guy when all the people down the front were chanting his name after a solo - he would just point at Ronnie and mouth the words - Its his band.
He does seem though to be - like Vinnie Moore ( UFO live DVD coming out soon http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=p...M&title=747704
a bit of a one trick pony - very one paced - but what he does - he does well
Oh and real ROCK bass players use a plectrum - take note Rudy Sarzo.
LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL

I liked them back in the eighties untill he started running around with swords and dragons and it all got a bit daft.
I saw them on the Dio/Warlock tour as well spent most of my time watching Doro Pesch
