Yeah right - Speed limits may rise 10mph in local road rethink

Starts: "THE government has ordered a review of speed limits on most of Britain’s roads in an attempt to win back the confidence of motorists. The move is likely to result in hundreds of local speed limits being raised on accident-free roads, but lowered to 20mph in more sensitive areas, such as around schools".
Sort of hits the spot but I bet they define 'around schools' as anywhere within about 5 miles and 365 days per year, 24 hours a day.
Another great one from our Ladyboy: "One of the problems we have with getting motorists to obey speed limits is that they don’t believe that some of the lower speed limits are necessary and they think they were put in place years ago and have never been reviewed".
No - we all know that limits have all been lowered recently to grind more money out of the motorist - nowt to do with road saftey or traffic conditions!
What's the betting that this is another of those great Nu Labia smoke screens where they promise to makes things wonderful but end up doing F all about it. A bit like GB and all those job cuts he was going to do at the Treasury etc
Cynical? Moi??? Nah ....

We've voted the ******* in, not once, not twice, but THREE times!!Remeber the so-called review of speed camera sites?
All the govt did was to ask the scammer partnerships if they were satisfied with the placing of their cameras, (as if they're going to say "no"), and when they all said yes, the govt just said "Well, that's OK then!
The trouble with a speed limit review, is that they'll ONLY ask the opinions of the scammers, MADD amd safespeed etc.
Having said that, it was announced in our local rag last night that anyone caught "just" over the limit in a 30 from now on will be offered a training course in place of the points and fine.
They even went on to say that "just" over would be defined as 10% + 6mph................so 39mph!!!

My concern is that following a review, the roads they thought they may be able to up the limits on are actually too dangerous and so they will be further reducing the limits on them rather than increasing them.
The F**kers are up to something and no good will come of this.
As usual it all sounds good but there is bound to be a subtext that will leave us all worse off in terms of civil liberties and finances. Wait and see.

I certainly agree that a sensible review of speed limits with regard to the handling of modern cars having improved so much would be a good thing if it is done properly using common sense and informed personnel.

We know this a front to reduce limits! worth asking where they have increased limits in the last 12 months and where they have reduced them and then work out the ratio, that will prove the trend!
Wont be long before they will want us all to employ a man with a red flag to walk in front again all in the cause of road safety of course because any policy is worth while "if it saves just one life" shame they let 20,000+ people die each year from hospital aquired infections then
