Default bmw drivers? lol, ebay classic.

this has got to be one of the best statements I have ever read on an ebay auction.

look at the bottom paragraph.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-318-CI-COU...QQcmdZViewItem

is he a typical bmw driver?

The owner probably tried to start it with the cylinders full of water. Water don't compress that much and something has to give..

I've heard of that before. People drive through a flood and water enters the intake It's called hydrolock I think

hydrolock would seize the engine up, but I doubt it would cause the engine to explode?

Done it in an escort, trying to cross a deeper than normal ford (how ironic) the intake for the air filter is just at the front of the bonnet, I went slightly too fast and built up a bow wave which meant the air intake sucked up water into the engine via the airbox. Pistons locked and I was stuck in the middle of a river.

Got home took the spark plugs out and about 1.8 litres of muddy water came splashing out when I started her up.

Yup hydrolock....water doesn't compress very easily

If the engine is running at the time of it happening - think of it trying to cope with 1000000000000000Bar of boost, and you get the idea of what happens

Seen it happen whilst off roading, some unfortunates snokel came detached whilst wading, the engine just locked solid and wouldn't turn over. Not sure of teh damage, as I didn't see the guy there again (probably been busy rebuilding/replacing the engine )

What I don't understand is why the registration number he gives for an hpi check is completely different to the one on the car.

Yep bloke at work drove his Peugeot 406 through a fairly deep flood, apparently the air intake is quite low on them. Sucked in water and then threw a rod through the block. Got the insurance to pay out for it.

Hmm. Iirc, it is recommended that any vehicle that's been stood in floodwater for sometime, as opposed to just driving through, should have the braking system stripped and checked.
Remember, we've had some big floods in recent years.

Interesting to note that the MOT expires next month - obviously he's expecting a pretty expensive fail, otherwise he'd be selling this with a new MOT!
