Default America asks the EU for food, blankets, and water?!?!

So...they're asking us for help.

Err.....so how exactly can the grand old US of A not find enough food, water, and blankets WITHIN it's own country to help those who require it???

I find it astounding that America doesn't have the resources......

You guys need to realize that the area affected by the hurricane is about the same size as the UK. Imagine if a storm left significant parts of England, Wales, and Scotland under water and sewage and without power and fresh water...and it's 35* outside.

Send them all the Maccy D's & KFC sh1te back.

We're sending them MoD Ration Packs. God help them, those things taste terrible.

Suppose if you're starvin you'll eat anything. You'd think the US Military would have a lot of those in storage already.

God, those things give me the dry boke just thinking about them. Eating a half cold burger at 6am wasn't much fun. I'll admit to enjoying the chicken pasta though

If they need help thats no problem with me but if it happened over here on that scale it would be 10s of millions in trouble. So the comparison a bit silly IMO

Perhaps we should all realize that people are suffering, and that is more important than politics.

I'm sure I read in the book Bravo 2 Zero that during the first Gulf war the SAS used to swap British rations for US hardware/ordinance as it was much better than the US army rations.

A voice of compassion at last. They are still people. most of them quite poor. The suffering is very real. The US are always good at dishing out aid to poorer countries, now its time for people to help them............ so dig in your pockets!

Givent the amount of help the US gave for the tsunami. Seems a bit short sighted to tell them to bugger of when they have a disaster. In the great scheme of things international aid will doubtless be just a drop in the ocean of what the US provide for themselves (US $20 Billion from congress).

However the symbolism of helping is important.

Wouldnt be surprised if next time there is a disaster somewhere else the US simply turns around and says "**** off. Charity begins at home and we have our own issues".

Dig deep? this is the richest nation in the world. their population is HUGE. and they need help from the likes of our little country?

Now dont get me wrong I feel compasion for those suffering. But we're debating about the US government asking for help not the people of New Orleans... The US doesnt need any financial help. tell you what they do need though, a Government capable of pulling their finger out

Ahh yes. They're rich so they should pay for themselves, we're poor so they should pay for us aswell.

Unfortunately whilst you can enforce a redistributionist economic policy within a country you control (see the current labour government) its a bit harder when we're talking about global aid here.

Think of it as an insurance premium if it helps. We give them a little bit of help now to show willing. Should we ever need it we'll get a **** load more in return.

If I was in the US and reading the comments in this thread, my opinion would be "sod you all then dont come begging next time you want help. Its every country for itself and look after number one."
