SPECS Cameras
Does the ANPR only detect normal standard number plates ? Or does the number plate recognition also pickup those with italic, squiggly, or even just slightly out of dimension plates ? Just curious
Anyone know ?

My only thought is that when it gets that there are specs cameras on most motorways and roads, id rather have a slightly out of dimension/font plate that still looks normal than risk being clocked at 75 over a long journey and collect lots of points.
While the system is designed for automated processing of citizens who indulge in anti-party thought crimes in cases where the citizen has interfered with the enforcement system then the evidence may be examined by an enforcer who will then take the appropriate action against the citizen.
In the situation where the identification mark can not be read it may be enhanced to allow a citizen to be held accountable for the crime. Having a motoring crime without also having details of a culpable citizen is not allowable even if the innocent may occasionally suffer.
Citizens must also be aware that internet forums are now monitored by the enforcers and there have been several unpleasant and anti-social thought crimes detected and successfully dealt with by this tactic. Citizens admitting to using identification marks designed to bypass the control systems will be traced and eliminated.

Have been inside an ANPR van and yes, they pick up and identify everything. On the odd occasion the machine gets stuck on one it flags it up and the person watching the screen can scrutinise it.
Couldn't believe that one in 10 cars on the A3 south of Guildford at the time was flagging up some issue, e.g. no tax, no insurance, no reg keeper etc. They chase the ones that sound interesting down the road and pull them. Saw one bloke get taken down the station that afternoon. Oo-er.
But not checking speeding, BTW.

As a side note, they are actually fitting them on the M20 now. Its been rumoured they were there for years, but the posts are up. Just before the M25 you will see a post that looks like this

Notice the webbing design on the arm support. (bit faint I know, sorry) The M20 one's are dual armed (mounted in the central reservation) and look like the London jobbies.
They'll soon to be mounted with cameras that look like this
