Default White Stripes

Well fukc me backwards with an unlubricated traffic cone....

I am a massive fan of 60's male vocal soul but tonight I appeased my fella and watch the glastonbury stuff on the box.

This band were mesmerising... totally focused and scarily unlike two peas in a pod.

I felt this band could not be appreciated without visual and I was awestruck by the style of the girl playing drums... ok, her ability was limited to standard work but by jove, wasn't she good. Totally complimented the main squeeze I'd say

No, I'm not a convert, just showing my appreciation for live music

The White Stripes? 'Elephant' is one of my favourite albums but Id recommend 'White Blood Cells' too. They have a very raw sixties sound which comes from making one-take recordings on 1960's vintage valve recording equipment; no overdubs and no samples.....

It was simplistic but busy.. I liked it... not sure I could listen to an album without seeing them though... but as a band to watch they were great

I prefer studio albums to their live performances; but you could look out for a DVD recorded live at Blackpool.

I have digital freeview and I was flicking through the stages (**** me one good thing about digital, excellent).

Anyway, I got to wot's he called that idiot who was with johhny ball's lass, oh that's it and it's zoe ball and now it comes to me, no it don't. I remember he was in the house martins though. Anyway I had to laugh at his pathetic smiley face with 3D glasses attermpt for all the crusty smackheads out there. Feckin losers I hope they lost all their stash in the flood FPMSL! when I saw the floods on the news.

Anyway, Flicking through the channels it was only White Stripe who got me to stop and listen. I don't really know this band but every time I hear them it makes me think who are these? and I think white stripe and lo and behold it was them tonight! Top band!

I find he's got the most annoying bloody whining voice ever... but thats imho of course

You like 60's male soul vocals? Go and ***buy*** some Black Keys albums... Just an electric guitar, a drumkit and a whole lotta soul...

EDITED: Obviously I meant go and ***buy*** the albums, not download them. How silly of me...

I never really liked them (white stripes), but after seeing them, I`m well impressed. Liked the Doves aswell, but was a bit dissapointed with Bloc Party, like the album, but wasn`t keen on the live performance. Just my opinion.

I couldn't say I'm an avid fan, but I've seen them live before it has grabbed my attention, as do thier songs.

Certainly something that tries be creative in old fashioned rockin' kinda way

What keeps me wondering is what would it all sound like if it was performed with a backing band. Being a two peice must be so restrictive sometimes. But then it does get my imagiation running of what the songs should sound like with bass, backing and keys

Totally agree. We'd just gone to bed, I'd flicked on the tv not expecting anything interesting...And was just mesmerised by one of the most original acts I've ever seen. Loved how she jigged and rocked her head from side to side as she played How good was he on the guitar??? So many original licks. You could sence he was putting, revealing so much of himself in every touch. Then when he started on the glockenspiel!!! ffs!!!

Got the Live Under Blackpool Lights DVD for crimbo last year The sheer noise and energy that just two people can generate is awesome

Missed last night's perfomance coz MrsD was watching summat else

Prefere White Blood Cells to Elephant meself, but that's just personal opinion, I'd recommend a newcomer trys both. Not heard the new 'un yet, so can't comment

Indeed. I shall be making full use of this facility to *avoid* Coldplay.

So true too, I D/L'd Coldplay's latest "superb" ( )to try and see if I could understand why they are so highly rated by stuffing together a few piano riffs on every song.

Still don't like them, the album ended up my recycle bin (I didn't pay for it )

hmmm heres my 2 cents (kent brockman)

watched this as well, and being someone thats more of an electronic music fan, it amazes me how many people go to these festivals and how big the music is. I personally have no appreciation for this type of music, I cant help it. not critiscing (sp) just pointin out my suprise at the following it has. likewise what i listen to people would hate, but it honestly sounds to me like a lot of noise, iv tried but i just cant like it, it makes me hate it even more.
hmmm never mind

I quite like some White Stripes stuff but I thought their Glast performance was a woeful, needed to be there, type of thing. Jack was whiny on vocals and missed a LOT of chords and notes. Meg's timing was all over the shop. Very poor in all though I'm prepared to admit the atmosphere of being there would have helped.
