One for you plane nuts maybe...
Saw a programme on Discovery a while back, about a Russian aircraft that "flew" approx 3 - 6 feet above the water, at 500mph, and could carry approx 400 pax. If memory serves me it was jet powered and about the size of a 747. I think the project was eventually cancelled due to lack of funds.
Just reading that back, the whole thing sounds nuts I know, but I'm sure I didn't dream it! Anyone know what this thing is called and are there any websites for it?

Are you referring to the Capsian Sea Monsters?
Basically the Soviets developed a number of aircraft that benefited from WIG - wing in the ground effect.

It was a ground effect machine and promised to be very efficient. The Russians are very inventive and have produced quite interesting machines which were never considered by anyone else. The Germans have done a lot like that too.
