Sony Plasma
I've just been offered a SONY KEP42MIS Plasma TV for £1900 - Delivered.
1. Is it a good TV?
2. Is it a good price?
3. Should I change my excellent Sony Trinitron Tube TV for it?

Trust your eyes,not reviews.
The only plasma's i've seen worth having are top of the range Panasonic.Cheap plasma's are a waste of time,if thats the case you'd be better off with a decent Sony crt.

Pete,
Try to get a test drive on one in a show room. Get them to hook up a DVD player either by RGB Scart or preferably component. You can then make your own mind up! As you may presume from my comment, you can spend miniscule amounts on these and still get a good set......... true, you can spend thrice as much to get the best....... but can you tell the difference but more importantly does it really matter, I suggest probably not. I love mine to bits and is awesome for watching films on etc. What ever you end up with, make sure it has all conceivable inputs on it for present & future proofing as much as you can.
Regards,
Shaun.

I have a complete Sony set up, inc a plasma. We paid over £2.300 for the TV, but along with the deal came a top of the range Sony DVD-R at half price & the Sony wall bracket.
Also purchased a Sony 17" Lcd flat panel for the bedroom, perfect is the only word.
Can only say excellent,
However these units only produce quality pictures if wired correctly. Invest in gold plated scart & phono leads this provides as I'm sure your already aware optimum connection.
Picture quality is excellent, but you do need distance from the screen, anything less than say 6/8ft you will see grain effect.
Invest & worry not, I'm a techno junky & totally pleased with my Sony kit & in spite of recent comments Sony is still at the top end of the Market, others just follow.
Cheers Matey

Always allow 10-15% of your budget for quality interconnects.

Too true, there are very few brands who actually produce their own plasma screens - Pioneer and Panasonic being two of them.
Sony's as far as I am aware are re-badged samsung or LG screens... not sure who they are using at the moment.

Each to their own guy's,
I scanned the market for the best deal with a good name, if sony are fitted with Lada panels I could'nt give a monkeys.
I have always used Sony & shall continue to use them in future.

If your thinking of buying any TV at the moment make sure its HDTV capable, as if not it will be obsolete in a years time...
Plasmas need a very good source, DVD is generally good on most half-decent sets, but Analogue is terrible, Sky a bit better (until they transmit HDTV), and free-view better still..
Pioneer are currently the best sets in all the reviews, but Id look for yourself, as Ive seen some terrible TV's which get an apparent 5 star rating..
Also many TV's share Tubes / Plasma Panels... Both Loewe and Band and Olufsen use phillips tubes, and Loewe make some of the best CRT sets available..

Pete,
From experience I wouldnt touch a Sony as Ive had so much trouble with them in the past and their customer service was appalling.
Check out www.avforums.com where you'll find loads of info on plasma, lcd etc.

Amazed no-ones mentioned NEC, they make their own screens and are rated joint top of the plasma league (with Panasonic) by most of the sites I've been on. Their latest models are rated at 60,000 hours phosphor half life.
