Circa 1967 and on BBC4 last night - anyone else watch it? It was absolutely 5-star AWESOME! I now understand better why, in those days, people would spray "Clapton is God" on walls. The bits where Ginger Baker was giving a drum lesson and Clapton was laying down some licks were just out of this world!!! Thank **** I had the foresight to record it at the same time as I was watching it as it made me sit up and pay attention -- having floundered around like a stranded plaice for the last two months looking for some new sounds to buy I think I'm gonna jump back 40 years in time and get me some Cream on my iPod.
Camerawork was crap though, cutting between bruce & baker twice a second and a close up of claptons face during his solos.
Ginger Baker is overrated IMHO. Drummers like Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Buddy Rich, Gavin Harrison are in a differen league.

Yeah, the camerawork was a bit iffy -- I put that down to it being 1967 as much of the footage shot around that time was probably "enhanced" using "artificial means"
I've always liked Baker as a drummer and IMHO he's up there with the best of them -- granted, he's not always had the exposure or played with the best groups but he can/could certainly beat the skins. My "group" of drummers to beat ('scuse the pun) would include John Bonham, Ian Paice, Ginger Baker and Cozy Powell in his heydey.

Alcazar -- nope they were just a couple of years before my time..my first recollection of them is "Badge" which my sister bought...a classic track!
David, yeah, I watched that too. A very good night's entertainment last night and a couple of glasses of Glenkinchie made it all the better
Just nipped out and bought the Best Of and was blasting "Crossroads" on the way home...brilliant. Also picked up Rory Gallagher's "Jinx" and had a good hard look at the John Mayall CDs but wasn't sure which one of the (large) collection to go for. Any recommendations? I also had a good long look at the Johnny Winter offerings but decided that this weekend will be a Cream one

2) I was just on Bells - poor man's Glenkinchie

3) Couple of Mayall songs to look out for are IMHO "It's a Hard Road", "Another Kinda Love".
Gone all nostalgic now..........

Thanks for the Mayall tips David, I'll watch out for those songs and also take a look at Buddy Whittington's recordings.
Scoob99, I took a look through the TV mag and the Sky listings and don't see this being repeated in the coming week
£700 for a pair of tickets
I think I'll wait until they decide to play Montreux and then get in early

I watched the Robert Johnson program and a bit of the Cream concert but switched over to Jonathan Ross because I'd seen it before.
I can really recommend 'The Layla Sessions 20th Anniversary Edition' if it's still available. The actual album is a little different but it's the 'Jams' CD that's worth the extra cash. Jam sessions can be rather boring and repetative but these ones could have been released on their own they're so good!
