What company to use for posting a package?

Well the Mrs went to the post office and they told her it was 20 quid because it was in the band of 2-10kg (its about 2.5kg apparently) and no can't be split, its one object.
I looked on the site and I thought the same as you guys but the person at the p[ost office told her different

That's because Special Delivery goes up to 2 kgs at £6.95 but the next weight is up to 10 kgs at £19.00 so if it's 2.0001 kg you pay the 10 kg rate.
I suggest you use First Class post recorded (but you get bugger all compensation if it goes wrong).
Or, if you're not in a hurry, use the standard parcel service. 4 kgs is £7.20 and you can buy insurance if required. Should get there for Christmas

Thanks David but need the compensation/insurance as not sending it without. Got the Mrs on the case with taking it out the biog box I put it in with lots of packing and just sending it in its own box and see if it gets to just below the 2kg. Called local firm but you have to be a business customer to use them
