Hi All,

I'm after a wee bit of advise from the all knowing SN users.

Does anyone know, or have experience of, a product or way of stopping bathroom mirrors fogging up everytime i have a bath/shower?

I have already got a fan above the shower enclosure and the bath is below a window aperture. However, the bathroom mirrors (along 2 walls of the room) seem to fog up very very easily. This annoys me in particular as when i shave it leaves me having to wipe the mirror every 20 secs so that i can see!

Can anyone help?

Yes that's certianly a cheaper option but it's also cooooooold up here in Abz and still isn't giving the fix i'm after.

I did try it once or twice but it's not the route i want to go. I'd rather buy something that stops it's fogging in the first place.

I've even thought about Goop that the motorbikers here will know about as it's an anti fogging serum that is applied to the inside of their visor to stop it fogging with their breath. It would be hellishly expensive to do my whole mirror tho!!

you can get a heating element to stick to the back of it. Would mean getting power to it though.

Yes it does work........on the inside of my visor anyway.

Ill go and scribble a SURE de-odorant tick on the mirror and have a shower, just for test purposes.......back in a mo.

And the best tip you'll get this year is..........

rub soap on the mirror and then rinse off.........taa daa..no more annoying steam when shaving.

I heard that hair conditioner wiped over the glass stops it from misting up. I don't know if it works, as I just leave the bathroom door open...

Nice idea. I have no prob in getting power to it as the mirror above the basin is attached to a wall with excellent access from the eves. Do you have any idea if there's a specific element that has been used for this before? I have heated floors throughout the house so it may even work to have the wall heated?

Yes, i've been doing that recently with a cold soaked facecloth and it reduces the steaming up. However, it still streaks and would be nicer to have a no messing fix.

There is already one there and it seems to help to an extent, it's just the residual heat that causes the mirror to fog.

Thanks for those links. I think i'll get the screwfix one ordered and hooked into the lighting system for immediately above the basin but i'll also give the soap/deodorant stick remedies a try too.

The anti-fog stuff for car windows works great in the bathroom. Much better than it does in the car.

As i'm sure you're all no doubt itching to dicover the results of my test last night i am very pleased to confirm that soap does the trick!!

When i got home last night i covered all the mirrored areas in the bathroom with Imperial Leather (stocking present from Santa ) and then washed off with water to get the bulk of the soap off but leaving a light lather over the mirrors to dry. I then left it for a few hrs to dry and went to see how it wss coming on. The mirrors had dried but were streaky; nothing a polish with an E-cloth couldn't sort. I then had a shower and made sure the room was extra steamy by closing the vent in the window too. To my surprise and great pleasure, the mirror was absolutely clear!!! I even tried to fog it using my breath but to no avail!

Sounds disgusting but you could gob on them and smear it over the glas then rinse off, that's how we divers keep our masks clear.

I work as an electical design engineer in the edinburgh glasgow area, and just finished a project of luxury apartments in the edinburgh quay area. we were asked to provide this function to all of the bathrooms and en-suites so i got a company called "demista" to supply heated pads that attach to the rear of the mirror to prevent the condensation build up on them whe the shower is running. These are very thin pads which come in various sizes with internal heating elements and require a very small amount of current to operate. Since the lights in the bathroom will be on most of the time your in there, the supply was taken from there.
