brother curious about what to do after a-levels.
my brother is doing maths, physics and electronics at a-level, but wants to move into the motor vechichle industry, would it be better for him to do a nvq level 3, but which one? or, do a degree in mechanical engineering at college? or go and do a modern apprenticeship with a car manufacturer or company?
Is he only interested in cars? There are several organisations that do great apprenticeships for truck mechanics - TNT are a good example. Very often these include getting an HGV licence (and if you got one of those you'll never be out of work!) Whereabouts in the country is he?
I could probably get a contact name and details if you think he might be interested in big engines!

he would be more into the car modifying area of the car industry but realises he has to work his way up, so what would be a good starting point to get him kick started? he's currently studying in the southampton/eastleigh area.

My brother took a Mechanical Engineering degree from Brunel, with a year spent working for Vauxhall as the "filling" on the sandwhich course, which worked quite nicely as a way into the industry. He's worked somewhere in the motor industry ever since graduating, and now works for the largest firm relating to car modifying in the country - motability! (OK, probably not what your brother has in mind as modifying)
