Now I know lots of nice hotels up there but what i'm looking for is a nice cottage to hire for a week in feb or March with at least two beds and not too far from Sheffield ( max 25 miles say). Any of you local SN boys have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Cheers Missyc. I've tried Sykes and English Country Cottages so far with nothing grabbing me yet, I'll give your ones a go now.

Thanks

Castleton I drive through it every day, it's in the hope valley

Or Edale, Hope, Bakewell etc...about 10-15 miles out of Sheffield too.

Have you tried Stilwells?.They have some 4 and 5 star cottages in the Peak District. We booked a cottage through them in Wales last year and it was excellent.

Cheers to all for suggestions.

We've booked somewhere in Hope/Edale off Missyc's site as we're trying to stay near to Sheffield without actually being in it My sister in law lives there and we're basically spending a week letting our kids hang out with their cousins. I've stayed in houses/hotels in Castleton and Baslow before so know the area pretty well and am jealous of anyone who gets to drive those roads every day, but then I live in Central London...

So once again ta to all for kind suggestions

Yeah! I have several routes I can take into work (to Sheffield from the Peaks) and ALL involve twisties and some fast straights with incredible views
Excepting a few weeks a year when the journey there and back is in the winter darkness

Yup Chris, it's such a struggle to have to drive around up there (apart from the Snow & Ice)

Only reason I ain't done a Tour O'Derbyshire recently is that I get to go up there too often

Believe it or not I still havn't done all those roads

Looking forward to it as last time I stayed up there we had a dump of snow, which in my then Nissan 200, was a laugh. I remember the Vale of Edale well....Very like the lanes around where I grew up in Wales.

Next question. Where's the nearest Optimax station? Sheffield?

There no Shell stations with the Peak Park so you are best filling up on your way in/out.

From the west there is an Optimax near Glossop on the A57

Be aware that the locations shown on the Shell Station Finder site are NOT very accurate - The above map has been frigged to show the actual location (Brookfield) on the A57

There is also a handy one on the A6 in Stockport

There are several in Sheffield

From the M1 there is a handy one near to Jn 29

From the South there is one at Uttoxeter on the A50(1) and one in Leek(7)

There a several in Derby too (but note the Ring Road Service Station (5) is now a BP)

Take the kids to the Blue John Caverns, it's a fun half day out just up the road from where you will be staying. http://www.bluejohn-cavern.co.uk/
