Name of a 1970's driving toy/game
I'm trying to remember the name of a toy/game I had as a kid, back in the 70's.
I'll try and describe it:
Plastic turntable thing, moulded and coloured to look like roads, bridges, rivers, hills, etc.
"Dashboard" with steering wheel, ignition key, gearlever and light switch.
You put a Matchbox sized toy car on the "road" of the turntable and a magnet underneath the turntable acted on the car.
When you turned the ignition, the turntable rotated and you "steered" the car by turning the steering wheel, which moved the magnet side-to-side and hence the car.
There were "headlights" which were provided by a light bulb under the turntable which lit the road just ahead of the car.
I'm pretty sure there was a "lo" and "hi" gear and maybe even a reverse.
Maybe I'm the only one that had this on here, but I'd love to find out more information and try to get one!!! I had many happy hours playing with it.

That's the one. Matchbox Steer 'N' Go. It used to keep me quiet for hours as a kid
The car had a small magnet that hoooked on to the front wheels, and ther ewas another magnet in the arm that was controlled by the steering wheel. I think there was a small bulb there as well. which made it seem as if the car had headlights when using it in the dark.

You know what.......................?
Scoobynet amazes me sometimes!!!!!!
Steer 'n' Go....that's it!!!
The roads are a bit wider that I remember, but they are still filled by that Yank tank!!!! LOL
Many Thanks peeps.
Oh yeah....I had a Grifter and I could wheelie it the full length of Coronation Road in Loftus!!!!!! (about 3/4 mile long!!!!) Used to hate it when you were in third gear, pedalling hard and the ****** slipped into neutral!!!!! OUCH!!!!!

Ah Grifters.. mine was an early dark-red metallic jobbie.. very cool.
Others who had them used to bend the mud flaps down over the tyre to make a "brrrrrrr" noise (until they wore out)
Being the very sensible person my Dad was, he bought an extended rear mud guard so that I didn't get mud all up my back..
I think the Grifter was one of the earliest bikes with almost non-existent mud guards.
Despite LOOKING like an oversized BMX, the damn thing weighed a ton.. it wasn't until I was older (I had it from age 8) that I could pull a proper wheelie. 2nd gear was yellow.. but never used that.. went from first (blue) to third (red)

Hai Karate - Wasn't it Valerie Leon who played the femme fatale pursuing the heavily-mustachio'd goy wearing said aftershave?
Pains me to admit it, but there's still a bottle of Brut aftershave in my house.

May be wrong here, but I remeber having a Super Flight Deck, which IIRC used to snap so frequently... great fun when working though

Flight Deck was the earlier version. Super Flight Deck was a bit more advanced 'cos you could launch the jet as well.
Both are mentioned on the site Sal found.

I had a few of these with different road layouts but you couldnt really follow the light and drive on the roads could you; apart from around the perimiter?
Evil Knievel; Six Million Dollar Man and Flight Deck were classic games; if only the fecking string didnt keep breaking...
