Question Norwegian Forest Cat

I know that most on here are cat lovers !!!!

Later this week a new member of the family arrives.......

His name is TJ and he is a Norwegian Forest Cat........

Anyone here have any experience of these beasts?

I know they grow to stupid sizes, and are real 'homebodies' who require loads of attention and affection. Anyone care to offer anything in the way of knowledge or first hand experience?

My cat is a NFC.

They take a very long time to mature. 5 years to grow fully and they still thicken up until 6 or 7 years old.

As a kitten my cat (male, tabby) was mad - very hard work but has mellowed right down now. They like to be outside alot and often wonder a long way but they know where home is.

They like fuss on their terms but are, if treated well from a kitten very, very trustworthy and soft.

They like to bite.....but fear not - it's playful biting and an "ow ow ow" will see them stop and "ease off" cos they can get carried away.

Cracking cats. Timmy is 3 and already weighs 14lbs. Another 3 years of growth still to come....!!

My friend has 3 of these. They are lovely but are high maintenance ( require daily grooming etc )

Mine does not. He is very long and thick coated but the fur is silky and once a week brush is fine.

They do vary though - depends on what you get.

Are you telling me you spend time once a week brushing one of these?:

Not a very "manly" pet is it!

Are you inferring that S_AP has to rely on his pet to get *****?

What do you have then Diablo? One of these:

my girlfriends parents have 6 or them..

2 are around 2 years old the other 4 are kittens..
They all seem to have very good temperaments, the kittens are restricted to the house and are very playful and enquisitive, (arent all kittens). The older 2 have a tendency to roam miles away. Where as their other cat (the 7th one!!) doesnt go very far really. But they always know where they are and always come back.

As far as cats go i think they are very nice..

Out of interest, how much and where from?

What are they like with other cats? We have a shorthair tom (14 ib - averaging 3 mice a day at the minute, left a beheaded and freshly bleeding rabbit carcass in the hall the otherday ) and a frankly pathetic little girl shorthair that's about 12 months old (I ignore it - it was scared of a mouse that reared up at it last night).
