Default The future of Star War...

There has been talk from George Lucas that he is considering letting other directors, Producers and writers take up the Star Wars mantle and developing concepts for TV.

It maybe sooner than we think.

Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill are doing the pilot for a new weekly Star Wars series. It'll feature Hamill as Skywalker in a 'pop up now and then' role, but mostly, it's new characters, set in the same world as the films.Lots of talk about it here, but don't expect anything until Episode III is out

Wasn't it always meant as a trilogy of trilogies? (sp) There are numerous books written that are set after the events of Return Of The Jedi, and I think 1 or 2 have even been given the thumbs up by Lucas.

thought he was going to make three more films after episode 3 continuing after return of the jedi, but he said that after episode 3 everything would be explained

The theory was trilogy of trilogies, as we know original was episode iv, a new hope, should go as far as episode 9 to get to the conclusion . . .

As mentioned above, there are already numerous books floating around. I've read a couple of "semi official" fleshing out details around episode 1 & 2. I do vaguely remember reading a "semi official" episode 7 about 10 years ago, but have forgotten half of what happened by now

IIRC wasn't it that there are "no official episodes VII VIII and IX written", and "no plans at the present time to film them in the future", rather than "they will never exist".

Also IIRC, he said at the time of making the first 3, he didn't believe films, special effects etc was in a position to do them justice (and they weren't properly written ), and so they weren't produced for another 15-20 years. In 2018 (or whenever), don't be surprised if they decide they start writing / filming episodes 7-9!

You wouldn't believe how many novels there are that follow on from The Return of the Jedi I've read them all. They're amazing (Chewbacca is killed off, Han becomes a recluse and an alcoholic ). Makes the film trilogy look like a storm in a teacup.

The only one I haven't read is the one where Chewbacca dies.

Read all the books too

I thought Lucas has said that "He" wont be directing any further Star wars films but he is open to anotehr director taking up the challenge, although it is more likly to be in a television medium rather than big screen. I also seem to remember that Rick McCallum said something along the same lines.

I'd like to see a series following Roge Sqdn or different stories each week like the books the "Tales of" Maybe following the bounty hunters or rebel soldiers, maybe some Tales from imperials.

Lucas didn't direct Empire (Irvin Kershner) or Jedi (Richard Marquand), so his lack of involvement may produce some watchable SW films. I always prefered both of those to the original SW anyhow. I also prefer them to the new CG films which all look too artificial. Effects seem to have taken a step back IMHO; miniature models and sets and mattes used on the originals work much better for me.
