Seriously tho, they were brand new last year, used once, put really carefully back in the box, and now nothing
Tried the fuse, nothing, tried the bulbs, nothing.
Given up now, off to play in the mountains tomorrow, the missus can sort it

I've had this too today - 3 sets working fine, one set has FOUR dead bulbs - WTF?
It also seems like the right kind of spare bulb no longer exists, so now I've used all the spares, that's another otherwise perfectly good set scrapped as soon as another bulb pops.
Bah, humbug

Have had the same set of Woolies' Pifco lights since I lived in Richmond.
That's 15 years ago.
Never had a problem with them.
Bought a new tree yesterday, pre-wired with about 300 lights on it. Absolutely gorgeous. [Waits for one to go wrong...]

Can't understand the sudden increase in the popularity of fake trees this year... what's up with getting a really nice REAL tree? One thing a fake tree can't give you is the christmasy smell of pine needles

question for the sparkies - how many variations of bulbs is it possible to create? I now have a box of maybe 40 sets of lights that don't work, along with the three sets on the tree that do. Every one of the 40 sets has a mutually exclusive volt and amp per bulb rating. Given that they all run off 240v, I am wondering how many more years do I need to buy three sets of lights before I get a set that I can use an old set as spares??
