The Streets
is it just me, or are The Streets (aka Mike Skinner, I think) just complete and utter rubbish? Never heard anything so bad, and yet its everwhere like some plague.
Cant believe the airwaves are being filled with this junk......it seems that today whatever station I tune the radio into, The Streets are there assaulting my ear drums like some annoying gnat on acid.....
Maybe I'll have to start tuning into Classic FM!
or maybe its just me?
Neil

Nope, not just you - not a fan of the streets at all !
And just to be controversial, I'm probably the only one to hate U2 - if I hear Vertigo once more...................
Talk about one of your most overrated bands ! The Edge ? SUCH an average guitarist, you'd think after all this time he'd have become a decent guitarist. And as for boner - don't start me off !!!
I know I'm in the minority, but I've really had enough of U2 at the mo !
Er, rant\hijack over - feel better tho
Matt

"A Grand don't come for free" is an excellent album; the whole album tells a story, with each song a self-contained chapter in that story. if you listen to the lyrics (something I don't often do), most of the songs have a real ironic edge to them. The Streets really isn't my usual listen, but I think he's great.

i cant stand the streets and i have never heard him sing.where is the talent in reciting words over what are most of the time crap beats?the lyrics are probably good for alot of songs which he is probably due credit for and dry your eyes mate would be a great song if someone who could sing was actually singing it.any random fool can talk over music.i dont see the fuss at all.

Absolute ****e IMO. The guy cannot even talk properly let alone sing. Reciting "lyrics" over music is not new or cutting edge, ffs William Shatner did it 30 years ago. At least Shatner had the humility to understand that he looked a **** doing it, Skinner seems to believe the hype that he's some sort of urban poet. Poet? there's a stretch for a start, my 10 year old can be more profound than he's managed to be. That latest offering is the poorest so far. Musician? Don't make me laugh. The latest 'song' features some back beat that is about as imaginative as a nokia ringtone from the mid 90's and about as well produced. The orchestral work on 'Dry Your Eyes' isn't an original piece. The 'music' on 'Fit But You Know It', was a standard blues scale. It's been repeated so many times through musical history that I can't really attribute it to anybody but suffice to say it's not original.
And there's the crux: nothing he does is original so where's the talent? Just because Jo Wiley says it's good doesn't make it so. Fair enough, some people might lap it up and really enjoy it but that doesn't make it special and the word genius is used way too often nowadays.

Everything about it I should just hate, somehow I quite like it, Dry your eyes seemed quite heartfelt and the othewr tracks I have heard sound a bit like Parklife era Blur. its easy to get snobby about music, I have in the past but you then end up listening to way to much Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead, neither band known for its sense of fun.
Where's me Burberry cap, I am off to walk the Staff in a sort of mournful Chav trance to music.

Yeah, each to their own but the first time I heard The Streets on the radio I said, "Is someone having a ******* laugh?", I thought it was a p*sstake.
