I've seen them do this in Belfast where there are several observation posts on top of blocks of flats. I sat on the bus one morning and watched them do this, I assume they were dropping off gear as well as people as it seems normal for people just to nip up the stairs. The 12 floors below had people living in them. I wonder can you report the noise to the council?

That is one fantastic pic
I got to stay on a Chinook and Puma base for a week (RAF Odiham) and it was
Spent the week being flown around in them, plus one night went out on a low level night flight training exercise in a Puma, that was the highlight of the week, was definately an experience I will never forget

A real picture:
"Origins: This is another real photograph, taken during Operation Mountain Resolve, a month-long operation launched in November 2003 to round up Afghan rebels in eastern Afghanistan's Kunar and Nuristan Provinces. The picture shows a CH-47 Chinook helicopter being lowered onto a roof to receive Afghans taken by the Army's 10th Mountain Division."
Taken from here.
Edited to add I've had a few trips in the back of RAF Chinooks and the pilots can really chuck them around when they want to - normally causing the jessies on board to vom everywhere.
