LOL, buck PM'd me special to tell me about it As it happens me and my mates are having a home game tonight (texas holdem (cards)) but I'll suggest we put this on in the background

It'll be interesting to see the theory behind what they did. Lol, I think you all think I'm some sort of gambler. I only play with an edge which is why the ONLY gambling I do is poker

Hence the, 'how do I blow £10 gambling' thread

I can't get the program here, but will someone let me know if the scientist in the program is Dr. Edward Thorp? If so, that is a pretty old program as his book was published more than 25 years ago and the casino rules have been changed quite a bit since then to counter his system.

Yes, Edward Thorpe. Rules have not changed, Casino's know how to spot a counter, thats all.

Very intersting program. Dr Thorpe went on to make billions from the stock market, using, probability.....if I only I was that clever...!

If there is an edge I'll take it Won the home game btw The highlight was when I was on the big blind with 93o and the small blinds limped with a7. The flop was 9,9,9 and he kept betting his ace high

Jamo, YHM and thanks.
Dr. Thorpe was the pioneer on blackjack card counting and strategy and started a players revolution with schools teaching players how to beat the casino, professionals giving up their jobs and make millions off the table (at least that's what the title of the book Million Dollar Blackjack implies) and also spurred me to make that my ambition too. Alas, the only casino in town changed to 6 decks after a team of foreign players armed with the strategy paid it a visit and made off with a few hundred grand.

Dr. Thorpe's next project was to develop a system for bacarrat, the only other casino game where the hands are not independent events statistically. Nothing much was heard of this, guess he got sidetracked by his stockmarket simulation studies, which is the biggest casino in the world.

Then there are attempts to predict winning numbers in roulette, with micro-computers to help track the movement, and all sorts of methods to cheat the slot machines. What facinates me most is the magic tricks with cards. If only I can produce an ace in every poker hand that I dealt myself, (in home games, each player gets to deal in turn, unlike casino where the house provides the dealer), I will be a very rich man, but neither my eyes nor my hands are fast enough nowadays.
