9/11 Conspiracy - now a Titanic conspiracy
Tonight on Sky One - 9pm.
The Titanic never sank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that rusting ship at the bottom of the sea, is just a camera trick then???
Actually I've heard this one before. Read it all in a book recently.
It started before the Titanic was launched, and it's first sister ship the Olympic was sailing along nicely, when it hit or was hit by a Royal Navy ship.
The Olympic was sent back to Belfast for repairs while the Titanic was in the dry dock getting fitted out ready for lauching. The Titanic had to be removed, so the Olympic could be repaired.
It was then discovered that the Olympic was very badly damaged, was un-seaworthy and beyond repair. So a plan was hatched to switch ships in the dry dock, and the Olympic became the Titanic, was patched up, then launched and deliberately sank to get the insurance money.
Now here's how it didn't happen.
When the Olympic was sailing it had a problem with it's design, in that the forward first class passengers under the boat deck kept getting wet with sea spray. So the Titanic was altered when it was built in that the forward windows were extended to the front of the ship. And the photos that exist of the Titanic leaving on it's maiden voyage show these windows in place. The Olympic didn't have them.
So that's the program tonight completely ruined, but should be worth a watching, and I better go and do some proper work now.

Surely 2 simple questions would've avoided the need for this to be aired
1. Did the Olympic, or for the sake of the argument, the 2nd ship sail again?
If it did then maybe a switch took place, if it didn't then no switch happened.
2. Was Paddy Fenton on board?
Documentation says not so his claims were, probably, falsehoods and guesswork. Stating this fact at the start of the show would have saved so much of my time.
Yet more bollocks tv stretching the truth and cleverly editing the facts for 50 minutes before going "probably didn't happen".
The only conspiracy going on is who at Sky authorises spending subscribers money on this crap.

Actually, Olympic did sail again until 1935 when she was scrapped. The design of the bulkheads (the ones that made the Titanic "unsinkable") was changed after Olympics accident while Titanic was being constructed. Olympics were also modified and the ship relaunched.

The Olympic had a very good record...
During the First World War, Olympic had transported 41,000 civilian passengers, 66,000 troops, and12,000 members of Chinese labor battalion. She had gone 184,000 miles and burned 347,000 tons of coal. Because of her outstanding war record, she earned the nick-name "Old Reliable".

Where I'd read all this originally was a book called "Titanic: Triumph and Tragedy"
It shows the damage to the Olympic, and going by the photo with a worker standing next to it. The damage is about 60 feet high by 20 feet wide, in the shape of a V. But it was all side damage and none under the ship near the keel. So to say it's back was broken is wrong.
As already said the Olympic was repaired and was in service until the 1930's.
The 3rd sister ship originally due to be called Gigantic, but renamed Britanic, sank after hitting a mine during WW1.
But the biggest difference between the ships was never mentioned.
The Olympic's B Deck - the deck under the lifeboat deck - was an all open passageway for it's full length. And a width of about 12 feet. Nice for the first class passengers to go for a stroll. But they got wet near the front of the ship due to spray.
So on the Titanic, the area from the front, under the bridge to between the 2nd and 3rd funnels was filled in, painted white and had windows fitted. Nearly half the length of the boat deck was changed.
Very easy to see, so why the "expert" on the TV program had to use a magnifying glass to try and see differences is taking the pi$$.
Even worse was some of ther photos used in the program was of the Lusitania, a Cunard ship and not a White Star ship.
Also in the book is the passenger/crew list and survivors. Paddy Fenton isn't on any list.
So not even close to being a conspiracy. But the TV guy wouldn't sell any books if he said that - would he.
Now for something to think about.
In 1898 an American author Morgan Robertson wrote a novel called "Futility", about a huge steel British Liner called the "Titan".
It sank in the month of April after hitting an iceberb with the loss of 2000 lives. The ship in the novel was 70,000 tonnes, 800 feet long and carried 3000 passengers. (Titanic was 66,000 tonnes, 880 feet and could carry 3000 passengers)
This was 14 years before the Titanic was built.

Nimbus,
I do have that book - Discovery of the Titanic.
I made the mistake of saying to my sister I'd enjoyed watching a program about it a few years ago on TV.
So every Christmas, I get a different book that Ballard has done.
It's better than socks though.
I think the Titanic and Bismark are the best ones.
Send me a PM.

I wished I'd known they were going to do this program as I could have gone back in time and asked my Great, great uncle who was Captain of the SS Carpathia - the rescue ship of the Titanic .... or was he ?
He got the keys to New York and all that Jazz as a result, as they steamed flat out in the dark among the ice to get there. Bit like driving a rally course flat out with with your lights off, but without the trees.

On Saturday morning, a book arrived in the post.
"Titanic - The Ship That Never Sank"
There was no card or letter in it - just the book.
It's obvious that it's someone on here that sent it, because of this thread.
But if you could PM me so I know who it was.
Thanks anyway,
David
